Since people pointed out Saturday isn't enough time to see what LJ is doing with this or about this, moved the potential moving date to New Years' - 1/1/2012.

[Poll #1805208]

The other poll is closed and this one will be open until Dec 31st! You can edit your vote by going here.

As a note, I'm completely willing to either stay or move. Updating the comm is easy enough for me either way.

1 - It's not only about subject lines. Others have written up potential problems better than I could:

2 - For those worried about possibly needing to make DW accounts to comment, if a move happens: you don't need one! OpenID will let you comment as an LJ user (in the same way Facebook users can comment on LJ).

3 - For those worried about missing updates: I can crosspost to LJ to let you know a post is up (with a handy link over to it), I don't mind that (it's like a minute of extra work, no problem) - if the DW move happens though, the comments would be over there.

4 - Apparently, this is what we're getting next year.

5 - I'm aware workarounds are available - but those (or so I hear?) won't stay available for long. Also, those layouts have their own bugs. If someone can actually supply me with workable code that doesn't make long threads unreadable to change the layout, I'll give it a try.

6 - [livejournal.com profile] raemia has an FAQ up here: http://raemia.livejournal.com/18347.html

7 - Tried the LJ workaround, give me your thoughts? Also contains links to what FS would look like on DW. Feedback on either/both?

8 - http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/811020.html?thread=511056908#t511056908 A good summary of the whole thing here by [livejournal.com profile] demarafis.

I'm honestly curious here -- I realized recently that I'm basically 3 weeks shy of 11 years on LJ, and my impression has been that yes, LJ has gotten worse in terms of how it treats its users, but the decline is not as drastic as a lot of the outcry claims. As a *platform*, I don't think it's gotten hugely worse -- some things have gotten better (tags exist!), some worse, and so the overall usefulness of LJ as a platform has remained pretty okay, with a slight downward trend. Again though, just my impression -- I hadn't always paid as close attention as I do lately. So really, I'm quite curious to hear more about your impression, as a long-runner here? If you're willing to share.

I really like your point about the value to the Russian audience. I live in the US, but I'm Russian -- born there, spent part of childhood there and used to visit frequently, family still there -- so it can get pretty surreal listening to people dismiss the Russian audience or even blame the Russian audience for whatever's going wrong this time. Though I do think this latest round of changes actually hampers the ability to have good long conversations, and so damages the utility in terms of political dissent.

Pardon the slight derail, but I don't often get a chance to swap stories with other people who've been here this long.

Well, I'm not your typical fandom person, so my opinion won't reflect the majority of fandom. It gets me into a lot of trouble actually!

As a platform I think it's awesome. I absolutely love RSS feeds and LJ is my feed reader. And with the new comment pages I love how they've included thumbnails of your icons and finally integrated parts of the RTE.

As for the bugs that inevitably get bitched about, I'm a front-end web developer. I know all about bugs. If a company says there's a bug and they're working on it right now, I'm happy. Fandom loses its shit immediately if there's a bug.

I also don't really care about LJ going corporate. People have this idea that LJ was a magical, anti-capitalist rainbow land under Brad. Oh please. I volunteered in support for a little while and got to see a lot of the people behind the scenes. The same drama was there, it wasn't perfect.

I also don't care about privacy that much, if LJ has cookies that notice I like posts about Warcraft and targets ads towards me I'm fine with that. I don't post anything that would ruin lives if the public/friends/private function broke, and *no one* should do so either.

The community has gotten worse. I don't even want to participate that much because no matter what SUP does the users hate them. If SUP added 50 more userpics for everyone the community would bitch about not getting it sooner and why it wasn't 100 userpics.

So Imma gonna sound weird right now but your comment was so awesome for me that I had to go through your personal lifeprofile to see if I had any basis to friend you without sounding like a weirdo!

Rayearth, byakuruki and ship manifesto are enough for me! CAN I FRIEND YOU?
