That you were probably seeing it the same way the show intended it? I thought it was funny too--because I find those kind of songs for real pretty gross!

I thought it was hysterical too. The whole point of it was taking the piss out of infantilisation, showing how ridiculous it is. The fact that it started out tame and got more and more disgusting kind of pointed out that it is something you see women doing, something that women are encouraged to do, and that it's a slippery slope to something far more ick-inducing. Because you still see women in the media using baby-voices or whatever for seduction (and I'm not blaming those individual women, it's something the media and society have told us is sexy) but the connotations behind it are gross. By ending the number with Annie in full-on baby-voice, acting as if she can't understand simple words and that's somehow sexy, it made a good point.

Exactly. At the end, Jeff is clearly grossed out, which makes it really clear. Though some of the clips, when edited into gif form, do look like they were meant to be sexy in that format, which I don't know how I feel about (which is my normal reaction to a lot of the sexy-Annie moments).

Nobody I know thought that. It's actually my favorite part of the episode. It's funny how it gets progressively stupider as it carries on. The end gets me laughing every time.

I was uncomfortable with it. But I find the Jeff/Annie jokes squicky.

It was making fun of the idea of infantalization being sexy. I mean, the lyrics were "boop boop be doop sex". It was pretty obviously mocking the idea of acting stupid and like a baby is sexy.

I'm totally with you, OP. I was laughing throughout this ENTIRE scene and thought it was just hilarious. It obviously wasn't done to be SO SERIOUS, but FOR laughs and to show just how ridiculous such an act is. I mean, think of the very last line: "Boop bee doop bee boop boop, sex".

Yeah, the point is precisely that infantilization is actually super un-sexy and it SHOULD make you uncomfortable, and the discomfort is what makes it funny.

I can't speak for your friends but I will say that I was a) very aware of what they were doing with the scene but still b) very uncomfortable watching it. I know they were poking fun at the infantilization trope, I know it was OTT for that reason, but it was still gross for me to watch.

For me, at first I thought it was funny, then it creeped me out as it got worse and worse, and then Jeff's comment at the end made it funny all over again because I realized the whole joke was that it's uncomfortable and kinda creepy.

I get that their intention was to show how hilariously wrong it was, but I think they went too far and just turned it into fanservice. But that's all they seem to do with Annie's character at this point, so I'm not surprised.

I had a few friends who disliked it as well, but it was all so clearly intentional and ridiculous that I thought it was awesome. (Also...wow. The baby voice was horrifying, but...just saying.)

Yes, yes. I thought they had made it obvious with the last line of the song and how put off Jeff was about it (and he usually finds Annie endearing/attractive, but not then). I guess it just flew over some people's heads.

I was kind of grossed out by it. I should've found it funny because it mocks a really stupid trope I personally dislike, but I guess I couldn't get past the fact that it was Annie doing it.

I understand that it was a joke, poking fun at infantilism etc. but it still made me SUPER uncomfortable. Which was entirely the point, imo, whether you found it funny or not.

I thought it was funny, but in an "Oh God, this is actually happening this is so not right!" way. My husband got really uncomfortable, but he really doesn't like the "sexy baby" thing. I think either reaction is fine as long as it doesn't lead to extreme actions.

Now I really hope that when season 3 gets back we can get back to a slightly less gif-tastic Annie. I find her crazy hot but it's getting over done.

You're all right. It was incredibly uncomfortable and therefore incredibly funny.

I cringed so hard and the scene really bothered me.
Partly because I was worried some fans might take it seriously and think it's sexy and fuel for Annie/Jeff. And it seems I was right. I've seen gifs and graphics posted by people who ship it and it really disappointed me that they couldn't see the criticism in this when women are portrayed like this. I just couldn't laugh about it. It wasn't even about ships it was more like "wow some people will not get this at all and think this is meant entirely serious" and that made me kinda sad.
