I could tell who he was going to turn out to be literally from the end of the pilot, so I knew not to get attached. And I can agree that he's hot, but the blubbering on the likes of Tumblr had gotten old by the third day after the ep. had aired.

I also clearly have no argument as to who you'd rather the focus be shifted to. ;)

[identity profile] dref22.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kind of happy we think the same way about this too. :P

[identity profile] mistaria.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad we don't have to watch a romance between him and Emma either.

[identity profile] uponadecember.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone. I didn't feel much for him either. And I felt like Graham/Emma's "epic, life-changing love" came out of nowhere. Sure, they flirted before, but it didn't seem like anything that meaningful. Yet we're supposed to believe it broke both of them free?

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I was certainly somewhat sad, but people are reacting WAY more strongly than I would've guessed. I admit I was pretty surprised. Maybe I don't take the show seriously enough (or I was just still too despondant over what happened in #30...)?

[identity profile] havemy-heart.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I was pissed off more than sad just because I liked him as a character.

We didn't have enough time to get emotionally attached to him and he didn't get enough development before that last episode for us to really care.

I thought it sucked that just as he was figuring things out for himself and was standing up to Regina he was offed, but I'm far from shedding any tears over it.

I think there are a lot of people who are disappointed because he was hot. Can't say I blame them.

The actor is listed in every ep from now on on IMDb for this season, so he may be dead in Storyville but I think he's still going to show up in the fairy tale world. I could be wrong though.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
IMDB credits for a season currently airing can be wrong. I'm pretty sure he CAN show up again in the fairy tale world, but I don't know how much he'll be there.

[identity profile] spider-rogue.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't care about him at all so I was just kinda like "...oh." And I agree, I love Ruby and I can't wait to see more of her!

[identity profile] michelel72.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
For some reason, I didn't figure out who he was until that episode. The show certainly did play fast and loose with the "idle flirtation" = "deep meaningful love". I'll miss him, because he and his accent were both cute, but that's about it.

I haven't seen any reaction at all, but that's because I haven't found the fandom (and haven't gone looking, TBH; my primary fandom is busy enough!).

But: They fridged a guy to give Emma "manpain"! I'm impressed at how well this show is keeping the focus on women overall.

(OT: I knew an ABC show would NEVER GO THERE, but in the episode when Henry was down the mine and Emma and Regina were arguing, for a second I GENUINELY THOUGHT they were going to go for a kiss. I don't even ship them together, but that moment would have worked for me. WTF, self? Also also, as much as I hate the "woman learns to love motherhood and settles down" trope I fear they're aiming Emma for ... how awesome would it be for Henry to have two mommies?)

People didn't want to see him and Emma happen.

I'm just glad we don't have to see him and Regina anymore. :|

[identity profile] niuxita21.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
OH GOD OP YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE. He and Emma had ONE EPISODE of romantic screentime and yet everyone was like, "ZOMG Gremma forever!" and I seriously don't get it. However, I can't say I'm all that thrilled that he's gone, because he and Emma have been OTPed so much that you just KNOW the show ain't leaving that thread unfinished. Also, he's a pretty male. In grand Lost tradition, it's only the female characters who stay dead.

You're not alone. Didn't care for the guy, and the sudden romance was something that didn't interest me at all. But I'm also in that cynical group that thinks all these characters not called Emma, Regina, or those you mentioned, are two-dimensional and boring as mud. Actually, I'm still expecting those latter three to suck once the show tries to develop them.

I really don't know why I keep watching this show.

Someone already mentioned this, but I actually found it funny that a guy was (potentially?) being fridged to get a reaction out of a female character for once.

[identity profile] visiblemarket.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't that attached to Graham one way or another, but man was the stuff the Queen/Regina did messed up. And on ABC! Not that late at night, either! Yeah, it made me a little uncomfortable.

[identity profile] kanjo-girl.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I think I was more surprised he died than anything. I liked him as a character and thought he could do more in the story. The blubbering is a little over the top.

[identity profile] eastcoastfilly.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
First, after what happened with Prince Charming, I can't take a death on this show seriously. Give it four more episodes max, there will be some big hiccup in the curse and he'll turn up again.

Second, I think I can do you one worse. When they kept hinting to it in the ads and previews, I was worried they were going to cop-out and kill the wolf. That same wolf that I'd been waiting all series to see them do something with. So, when it turned out to be him, my first reaction was "YES! They're not killing my wolf!"

Maybe now that he's out of the way, we can get a break from all the Snow White and Prince Charming flashbacks and focus on all these other characters they'be been teasing us with.

[identity profile] ahkna.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, I wasn't either. I was actually pretty shocked at how into him people were since he didn't seem to do much or say much at all. I guess a pretty face goes a long way.

[identity profile] fungenda.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I wanted to ship Emma and Graham before they showed him in bed with the mayor. Then it was just *squick* *squick* *squick*!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-24 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Chalk me up as another person surprised by all the people who were so upset about his death. He was far and away the dullest character in the entire show to me; I would pretty consistently literally completely forget that he existed from one week to the next, I'd just remember the awesome ladies, and Gold/Rumpelstiltskin, and Henry.

[identity profile] immasammich.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm probably the minority opinion here, but Ruby is an interesting character? I'll hold out until she says a few more lines that aren't just exposition for others. Style alone does not make a character.

As for Graham, I was sad, but I think it was more the execution than the actual loss of the character. Dying right after he figured things out and became "free." Yeah, that's a bummer. He didn't have a lot going for character though, but using characters lie Ruby as an example, most of them don't yet. No development allowed until fairy tale flashbacks ensue. Hope they don't kill off too many more when we're just getting to know them though.

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
The tone of this show is going to make me unhappy if anyone dies. It's that kind of tone, where true love really should conquer all and the "good" characters shouldn't die. I was so freaking relieved when Prince Charming turned out to be alive because his death was so jarring with the tone, and in the same way I'm jarred by Graham's death. But I suppose they wanted a shake-up just to remind us they don't have to play by every rule.

[identity profile] nabradia.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. I didn't feel much for him, really. I didn't have enough time to make an attachment and after the way he acted towards Emma and with the Mayor... meh, I can't say I had enough sympathy for him to care all that much when he did die.

I agree, though -- I'm glad we didn't have to suffer seeing a romance between him and Emma, though I'm more glad that it finally gave Regina something to be truly EVIL with. I was getting so damned sick of her crappy Scooby Doo bad guy persona. Her trying the same faily and ineffective techniques and threats time after time to get rid of/annoy Emma were getting old. It was about time she did something terrible. I was starting to doubt her worth as the villain until then.

[identity profile] tari-silmarwen.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Now, see, I was a little upset at his death not out of any real great attachment to him but because he was the first person Emma really let her guard down for. He's the first person she's really allowed past the walls around her heart she's put up to protect herself. She found herself caught up and vulnerable and feeling things she usually didn't (or if she did she kept it firmly under wraps) so when that little crack in her protection was torn wide open and then stomped on mercilessly, yeah I think that's hella sad. I knew his death was imminent from the previews but Emma opening up and showing romantic vulnerability with him blindsided me, and that's what got me about Graham's untimely and tragic fridging.

But maybe that's just because I get really really attached to hard-edged girls who soften and show their warmer sides around people they care about and just want them to be happy.
