That is bittersweet, good that fanfic got you through that. But I have to wonder what kind of sorry ass excuse for a city doesn't have a public library? My city is bankrupt and has a rockin' one. If I were you I'd start a petition.

Well, Gloucester City, New Jersey, for one. At the time the neighboring city of Camden had a public library system that you had to be a city resident to use, but they closed most of the branches and I think have since been absorbed by the county library system. The county system is great if you live in a town with a branch, it's just unfortunately there's not a branch that's always easily accessible to everyone. And there's a couple of towns in the county that have their own libraries for township residents, but offer discounted cards for county residents.

No seriously that's an outrage. I'd do something about it, in this economy WE need a library. This is sad and sick, it makes my stomach hurt and me cry. There was like a good four years where the library was my salvation my only place for internet access, books and lovely books on tapes or CD that got through classics I couldn't slog through otherwise and got me into Austen, Wodehouse and Rex Stout. Also DVD and magazines.

If I lived there I'd mount a campgain, a big vocal one and I'd get some big name Author invovled like Neil Gaiman or Stephen King.

Lots of libraries have been closed over the past three years. We managed to get through the Great Depression without closing a single one, but the "austerity" and "taxes are bad" push have hit hard on anything that isn't police or fire departments.

That's an awful shame and shows how far this country has fallen. I want a public awareness campagain about how important libraries are espically in urban enviroments.
