Knowing how I miss my fandom friends that I fell out of touch with, I'd say talk to them. It can't hurt anything, and there's a good chance they're missing you as much as you are missing them.

Of course, now if I could only take my own advice...

Why don't you message them like "Hey, remember when we used to be all into XXX fandom together? We had some good times didn't we? I'm into YYY now, what're you into these days?"

I tried reconnecting with an old fandom friend after she moved on from fandoms completely and we had both moved on from the fandom we met in and she didn't want to reconnect. At least now I know.

No she didn't outright say it. She just went on (kinda condescending) about what idiots we had been and acted like she had some big revelation that you could occasionally enjoy alcohol and parties. Like I had ever thought you couldn't. Well maybe a long time ago. But I wouldn't have judged her for it just because it's not MY thing. Anyway I wrote her back that that was all okay and that I had never looked down on her for that and she never replied so I guess I was right in assuming she didn't want any contact (I debated long what I should reply and if I should reply at all).

...Did I make this secret in my sleep or something? Because I've been feeling this way about some of the fandom friends I've lost touch with over time too. I don't know where they are now, or even if they're still on LJ, but it would be so nice to get back in touch with them somehow.

Well...While I doubt this is about me - just think about the circumstances you 'drifted apart' under. Was it just because you drifted apart? Or was it that one of you just lost interest in the friendship? Was it directly after a series of fights? Because that really could affect how much they'd miss you/want to talk to you again.

The reason I bring this up is because there are a [ex]fandom friends I've had try to contact me in the past who I had *no* interest in reconnecting with. She'd been abusive as a friend. While I certainly wasn't perfect, I also did nothing to deserve her constant insults about things I'd said or done that were bothering her, instead of a 'Hey, your font color is kinda getting to me - could you change it?' So, there is a fair chance that if it was under bad/unpleasant circumstances they may very well not want to talk to you again/

I always hope secrets like this are about me. Because I miss my fandom BFF so damn much, and I DO talk to her about RL stuff, but not about Fandom stuff anymore.

Which is fine, because I love her so darn much that I don't care HOW we talk or what we talk about, as long as we're talking. But I DO miss our Fandom conversations - she was the only one who really got me, y'know?

Just the other day, she messaged me on FB telling me that she'd written + posted a fic from one of our old fandoms. I wanted to laugh and squee and revert back to the good ol' days, but I held myself back because I didn't want to scare her off.

TL;DR - SHE PROBABLY DOES MISS YOU. I miss my fandom bff. She probably misses you!

I hate to be the bitchy person - but having drifted apart from a fandom friend, I really don't want to reconnect.

"A" was an asshole on my journal, flipped her shit and accused me of abandoning her and a fandom that I still write for, when A does not anymore. This is all because people cannot have more than one fandom at a time. Even though a mutual friend has about seven million, and A "admires her" for it.

So while we still comment occasionally on each other's journals, I'm very happy with A being a distant distant former friend.

/bitter anon is bitter, sorry
