I think a lot of people grow attached to certain songs because they hear them associated with pairings they like, OP. It's pretty natural, tbh.

Also there is nothing wrong with shipping Pokemon pairings, ffs. i just can't stand that one ugh

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's happened to a lot of people in fandom, OP. It's one of the perks of fandom-made stuff: even if a video is crap you can still find a good song.

After reading the S!B, I just have to ask. Why do so many manga fans hate on the anime? The anime actually gets a lot of hate from the fandom as a whole because it's usually seen as too childish or the canon with the crappy writing. Still, I frequently see a lot of people bashing it by comparing it to PokéSpec. If the anime's not your thing, that's great, but it's really not necessary to hate on the anime at the same time, especially given that it's not the most popular canon in the franchise these days. In fact, Spec is actually probably more popular than it is outside of Fanfiction.net. Never mind the fact that Red and Green don't even exist in the anime (except in the loosest sense), so the fan vids you've been finding were most likely about the games.

Sorry for the rant (and potentially being an obvious anon). It's just that as someone who gets a lot of nostalgia out of the anime, I always feel a little uncomfortable with all the hate it gets, and as a fan of the franchise in general, it always makes me feel a little sad when canon vs canon wars happen. Power of friendship, guys!

Pokespe fans who bash the anime annoy me; they're clearly meant for two different audiences.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible to be aimed at a young audience and still not suck.

[identity profile] typhlogirl.livejournal.com 2011-12-26 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
Good thing it doesn't, then!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I also get a lot of nostalgia out of the anime, and NGL, I even un-ironically enjoy watching it sometimess. >.> I also hate it, because it had so much potential but ended up horrible because the writers are too afraid to actually write a plot, and the reason it makes me angry is because it's the reason we never got the awesome anime we could've had. But at the same time I think canon wars are stupid. I'll probably always hate the anime, and I'm not gonna stop making fun of it, but at the same time I'm not going to try and get EVERYONE to hate it with me nor will I try to argue about it.

TL;DR we all have a right to express our dislike for something and that's not the same as starting a canon war, and canon wars are stupid.

I completely understand if it's not your cup of tea, definitely, and if you want to say you don't like the anime, that's cool. It just always struck me as weird and a little awkward whenever someone would say in the same breath that they love the manga but hate the anime, as if it's an either-or kind of thing or that it's obligatory to add in a footnote about how they hate the anime whenever they mention that they love Spec. I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] typhlogirl on a level. The two don't really fit the same niche, so it's a lot like watching people in the Harry Potter vs. Twilight fan wars.

On the other hand, the places I go to adore fandom drama. So maybe it's more because of that than something a lot of fans do, and I just read the secret in the wrong light because I was thinking of the fanbases elsewhere. If so, then sorry, OP!

(This is the OP by the way)

I wasn't trying to /bash/ the anime... I was just saying that in my personal opinion I prefer the manga; there's nothing that wrong with the anime, it's just not my cup of tea. I wasn't trying to be hateful, really! I dislike it because I'm not particularly keen on Ash's character...

Also, the fanvids I watched were based on fan-written doujins of the ship of the manga characters, or well put-together slide shows set to music... unfortunately, due to copyright issues, they've been removed from YouTube ^__^''

This bugs me too. A big part of it seems to be that they're desperate to prove that the anime is for little babies while Special is for ~mature~ fans (even though it runs in a magazine for 6-12-year-olds).

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-12-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
This seems to be the case with every children's series that adults end up liking for whatever various reasons. No matter how blatantly obvious it is that the series was intended for children, up to and including the writer/producer/creator/etc. explicitly stating that it's a kids' series, the older fans will go into a frothing rage at the mere mention of the fact and spend hours insisting that the series was CLEARLY meant for adults, look at THIS line and THAT scene and NO CHILD COULD POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND THIS PART IT MUST BE INTENDED FOR PEOPLE IN THEIR LATE THIRTIES. I don't know why it's so impossibly difficult to admit you like a kids' show, but apparently it is.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
haha, it's like you're speaking directly to MLP fans

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
But it has BLOOD in it! You hear me? BLOOD. The characters even GET OLDER.

YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. JAPANESE CARTOON MONSTERS ARE HARDCORE AND FOR HARDCORE ADULTS oh god please don't judge me

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
oh god why am i loling so hard

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I just realized that that is probably my oldest ship o_O

[identity profile] kimchiburger.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
But... isn't that a fanart of the game version of the characters?

[identity profile] smushfaace.livejournal.com 2011-12-26 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
...I think you're right, there.

Nicely done, OP.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
It could be fanart of pretty much anyone.
