(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 12:10 am (UTC)(link)Seriously, I DESPISE 'baby it's Cold Outside'. That and 'Santa Baby'. Seriously, Santa Baby just makes me RAAAAAGE. I mean, seriously. One is a creepy overly flirty song, and the other is essentially a gold digger song. The second was further ruined for me when I was forced to watch my Aunt's dance troupe perform, and one of the performances was a 5 year old little girl grinding and pouting to Santa Baby. ARGH. MY EYES.
Also, to your comment reply to me about about Celtic Women/Josh Groban/Enya, definitely. They all treat the source material with respect rather than trying to quickly trying to pop out a cash cow remix. If you like their Christmas stuff, I would check out Loreena Mckennit's 'Emmanuel' (in Italian, with a voice of a angel) and 'God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen' (which has a kick-butt traditional middle eastern take to it). Really, if you like all of those artists I would check her out anyway, especially if you like poetry. (She does song versions of The Highwayman, Stolen Child, and The English Ladye and the Knight, as well as a few more.)

I can at least deal with "Santa Baby" if the singer is clearly mocking the lyrics/message, since it can definitely work as a parodic sort of song (for all I know that was the original intent), but it's another I wish was played much less overall. ...maybe I just don't like songs with "baby" in the title.
