Oh my gosh, I'm SO GLAD there's someone else who gets creeped out by "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Unless there was a version of that song when the girl dumps the guy for being a manipulative possessive clingy douche. >_> She had some really legit reasons to go home and spend the holiday with her family.

Augh it just bugs me so much. It's super catchy though. But the words ruin it.

Actually, a lot of people refer to it as the "Date Rape Carol". but tbh, I don't find it that creepy. I mean, when I listened hard to the lyrics for the first time, I was like "lol, that could be construed as a little questionable", but I don't actually think it advocated date rape or anything. I think it may depend on who's singing it though. The inflection of the singer's voices has a lot to do with how creepy it is. In some versions, when the guy sounds a little pushier and the girl sounds more frustrated and annoyed, then it does seem weird.

But in many renditions (the Bing Crosby version for example), you call tell that the singers are meaning to be very playful and flirty. The guy just wants his girlfriend to stay around a bit longer and starts throwing of progressively dramatic reasons for her to stick around like "Aw baby, you'll freeze out there. Now the snow's up to your knees! and you'll catch Pneumonia and die! But there's a nice cozy fire in here!" and the girl is teasing him by going "Oh I don't know~, my father will worry and my aunt's a gossip. And the neighbors will talk!...but I guess I can stick around for another cigarette and a drink, since it's so cold and all". It's pretty clear that both of them are just teasing each other and they both actually do want to spend the evening together. I can understand people not liking the song though.

Yeah, I think that's what they were going for, so I don't have the same OMG RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGEARAMA response to it that some people have.

But it does sound weird, ngl.
