To be fair, there's no express evidence in canon for S/J either - however, I'm willing to raise less of an eyebrow at those canon advocates than the S/I ones for a couple of reasons. First, Holmes and Watson are in over like 50 stories together (or is it closer to 30? I need to dig out my books and look again), and there's more to examine at least for them. Also, scholars have debated for decades if Conan Doyle intended a gay subtext ... so at least an S/J 'shipper knows they're not crazy for seeing *something* there.

Of course, again, none of this should impede a 'shipper's fantasies in fandom. OP, if you want to get your righteous feminist anger on over fanon, go for it; but don't rely on canon to fight this shipwar, and - for the love of Susan B. Anthony - QUIT USING A RELATIONSHIP TO VALIDATE A FEMALE CHARACTER FOR RESPECT. Your argument should have fuck-all to do with slash; it should demand she not be bashed in fanon, period.

tl;dr - If OP has actually read all of "Scandal," I'll eat Mr. Barrie's wig from my icon, there. My digestive system feels pretty safe.

(And, thank you, fellow commenter.)

There are 60 stories all together; fifty-six short stories and four books. Granted, Holmes actually did have a few solo stories he narrates himself ("The Devil's Mane" comes to mind), but saying "50 stories together" it pretty accurate. (-:

OK, thanks for looking it up! :-)

No problem!
