Oh, okay, I know that's all kids of wrong to begin with and if it wasn't fictional I doubt I'd be okay with it, but it probably doesn't help that I'm coming at it from the perspective of a "Phantom of the Opera" fan (book-based, for extra kidnapping trauma lol), so from that perspective, him agreeing to allow her to take her father's place as his prisoner, BUT THEN giving her the run of the place, trying to be as kind to her (for the most part, once he'd started trying to not be such an asshole) as possible, and then giving her her freedom when she asked for it, sorta makes it not particularly abusive? So far as these things go?
I know, I know. XD But still. XD

(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 02:48 am (UTC)(link)...just because your captor is nice to you doesn't make it okay that he's your captor. and she shouldn't have had to ask for her freedom in the first place. and I say this as someone who doesn't even deride their relationship as abusive

I still do think, though, that by the end of the movie the Beast is a good match for her (certainly far better than Gaston would likely ever be).
