On one hand, I think when people* self-identify, you should respect that identification. On the other hand, marketing is such a huge factor in just about anything that it's hard for me to dismiss the effects that marketing has on creating a celebrity's image.

*"People" in this case meaning non-fiction people as opposed to fictional characters created by others. How much of this counts for Lady Gaga's image, though, is still up for discussion.
