I think the point was to love another. Perhaps not fall in love, but to simply love.

What I came here to say. The terms of the curse were simply: "If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return", which makes sense since the enchantress "had seen that there was no love in his heart" of any kind, not just romantic.
