You took the words right out of my mouth :) I really, REALLY don't like it when relationships are measured by "well, she/he is the best you can do". Love doesn't work that way all the time. Sometimes, you love a person to death despite the fact that you have an opportunity to "do better" and be with someone else who seems more "deserving" of your love. (Also, I hate the "deserving of your love" trope. Love doesn't work that way.) It's not about who's a better person or whether or not you can have a better relationship, it's about who you're in love with and who you're not. The fact that Kermit loves Miss Piggy just because is just incredibly charming.

Agreed. Kermit softens her. And while many seem to strongly dislike her, I believe his affection for her is supposed to be the audience's portal into appreciating Miss Piggy as something other than her more dominating HBIC self.

Plus I like that he loves her even though she "doesn't deserve him" because I REALLY HATE the deserving-argument when it comes to love. That's the beautiful, powerful thing about love, that it can grace and transform us even when we don't deserve it. Some folks make a big deal about who is worthy of someone's love, but sometimes the love of another is what makes us worthy.

I agree with this. I never got the whole "deserving of love" either. A lot of happy couples I've met on first glance as an outsider didn't seem to be "right", but as I got to know them it was clear that they completed each other. The opposite personalities worked for each of them individually and fulfilled what they needed. Not everyone wants to be with someone who is just like them and prefer to have someone that balances them out. For Kermit, Miss Piggy probably brings to the relationship that aggressive nature that he lacks. She doesn't take shit from no one and is very open about that, where as Kermit seems to keep things more to himself or avoids confrontation. And Kermit mellows her out because he seems pretty chill naturally. It works for them.
