...but Utena had a relationship that was much more stable. Those two have a very dark past that Sora pretty much tried to forget. And Kaharu is a maniac... I don't understand how Utena and Shitsurakuen is alike, except for the shounen-ai.

However, I love Shitsurakuen. Sora is amazing and all of her princesses are beautiful, especially since most of them go through interesting transitions.

Well, there are a lot of similar with Utena, like the drawing of weapons from bodies, a girl wanted to be a price (or in Shitsurakuen, a knight), the heroine being innocent and wanting to save everyone, Kaharu being not what she appears to be (not unlike Anthy). Obviously there are a lot of differences though.

I found Shisurakuen's ending to be disappointing, though. It felt like it had so much potential and then the end was just, 'nope, Kaharu's a maniac, the end.' I'm glad at least not ALL of the guys were redeemed in the end though.

Okay, I get it now. I guess when I look at Tsuki and Kaharu, I totally didn't understand. Tsuki was one of favorites until she went psycho.

I KNOW! The end was getting climatic and then all of a sudden--the end. I just stared at the screen like, wtf. It could have gone much further. There were a few storylines that could have been made, in my opinion. I feel like it was right for some of the guys not to understand still. It would have felt like a Disney ending, tbh.

But, I did love how the story was nice to Akane, so I'm nearly satisfied, tbh.

Except what you're saying is similar is something that's superficial, IMO.
