I thought Sherlock thought the pink woman clever (in a very convoluted way)? Maybe not.
But otherwise, yeah. Even John isn't always very bright (but I suppose that's the usual sidekick-provides-a-pretext-for-explaining-it-all-outloud thing).

My problem with the pink woman was that she used her phone as a signal to who murdered her after she would have died, rather than try to use it as a way to save herself. Who thinks like that? For fucks sake why not silently dial 911 in the cab after the crazy driver is going off about how he's going to kill you?

but he wasn't. he was going off about his game, and she thought she was (actually was) quite clever and wanted to beat him.

What makes you think she had an opportunity to use it once she realized something was wrong? Once he had the gun on her she wouldn't have know that she was going to be poisoned. She probably left the phone in the car as evidence that she was in the car at all. Then once she poisoned she then realized she could use the GPS.

John has a LOT of not very bright moments but he tend to compensate with pure BAMFness. People seem to forget these moments, though.

Oh, I agree. And he's got a lot more of, ah, social/emotional intelligence which isn't at all negligible, I think.
