IIRC she refused to give it. Which just makes it even shittier that he then went on to write those books featuring a character with her name.

I think he went on to write these books and put the word out about rape and the sexual abuse of women to assuage his own guilt, nothing more (though of course they were published after his death, so as far as I know he never intended to profit from them). It's one of the reasons why I've refused to read/watch this series; I feel like someone out there is profiting off of the real Lisbeth's rape, and that bothers me to no end.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-07 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)I don't see Lisbeth Salander as a victim. She is a survivor and tough as hell and I think she is one of the strongest female characters I've encountered. I think that's really important to remember.
Also as a poster said he was 15 at the time of witnessing the rape. Yes, he was still a child. I would like people to think about what they were like when they were 15 and think honestly what they would have done. I would have been scared out of my fucking mind to see that. I'm not sure I would have jumped in at that point either. And I am a person who, as a rape survivor, is passionate about these issues.
People get a profit out of making media based on tragic real life events all the time. But I am sure you watch none of those, ever, based on this logic.
