I'm not saying that it wasn't sexual harassment, but I will say that she kissed back. She shouldn't have HAD to apologize, but I see nothing wrong with apologizing.

Also, you know that people say "sorry" when it's not their fault, right? Like, if I say "I'm sorry your cat died," that doesn't mean I murdered Mittens. She's just sorry about the situation.

Agreed on the phrasing of her apology, but maybe I'm not remembering properly: did she and the President actually kiss? I thought that shot just showed them standing close together, like he was whispering in her ear or something.

I'm not sure what version of the movie you're watching, but it doesn't look like she's kissing the President back to me. It looks very much like she's standing very awkwardly still and looking tense and frightened while he either kisses the side of her face that's away from the camera, or murmurs into her ear.

Her exact words were: "I'm very sorry about the thing that happened. It was a very odd moment and I feel like a prize idiot. Particularly because (if you can't say it at Christmas when can you, eh?)-- I'm actually yours."

Emphasis mine. "I feel like an idiot" is very suggestive that she did feel at fault. Wrongly so, of course. But she's not just saying, "I regret you had to see that awkward moment", but apologizing for giving the wrong impression of her affection. Ascribing the fault to herself is incorrect (and all sorts of wrong) as she was clearly not a willing participant in the President's advances.

Bottom line: Surely it's not crazy to say that a woman shouldn't have to apologize AT ALL when a powerful man makes unwanted advances on her and her boss sees it!
