weird and kind of random question: does anyone else find the term "birth rape" kind of...tacky at best?

[identity profile] ypsilon42.livejournal.com 2012-01-08 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What does that even mean? Never heard it before.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-08 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
http://jezebel.com/5632689/what-is-birth-rape

I'm definitely not saying that women can't have unpleasant or even traumatizing birthing experiences but...birth rape?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-09 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
lolol that "calorie concentration camp" article on the side bar

[identity profile] ypsilon42.livejournal.com 2012-01-09 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
That article seriously scares me.

[identity profile] ypsilon42.livejournal.com 2012-01-09 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, "rape" seems like a strage choice of words to me as well. I mean, on the one hand I get that it reflect the loss of control those women might be experiencing, but on the other hand? Rape kind of implies sexual assault of some sort, doesn't it? And that's not really what it is(, even when sexual organs are neccesarily involved).

So, I would say, the term is at least confusing. But then again tonight is the first time I've heard it, so I am surely no expert.

[identity profile] kanjo-girl.livejournal.com 2012-01-09 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
'Tacky'? What do you mean?

I've heard of this before but not that much. I don't know enough to argue any point.

O___________________o

I just... Wow.

Yes, sometimes doctors abuse their power, but birth rape?

I don't even... Isn't abuse by doctor a good enough term? Or must everything be "rape"?
(Note, this doesn't apply to actual sexual assault cases, that is "rape", no questions asked).

Yes, I'm finding it tacky.

I mean, I get the idea of women having autonomy of their own bodies, and so on, but at the same time, I'm all for [responsible] Doctors doing what they need to, in the middle of a major medical procedure (and if you're in the hospital, I count it as a MMP, even if giving birth itself isn't) to save the life of the mother and child[ren] and/or to make the birth have less complications.

...Ew. Not sure if that's the best term for it, no. "Birth trauma" sounds like it'd be just fine for that without calling it rape. (Or maybe "my doctor was an insensitive douchebag.") The more that word gets tossed around the less impact it has.

Can anyone explain why LJ always posts my comments with the default icon when I choose an icon? Am I doing something wrong? I choose the icon and it appears next to my comment, but when I post, the comment gets posted with my default icon. The only reason I even still have a paid account is for comms and there is no point for me to pay for extra icons I can't even use

It's seriously pissing me off

[identity profile] cloud-riven.livejournal.com 2012-01-09 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I want to know this too. It's as if only every tenthtwentieth icon choosing gets through.

I want to rely on my pig and bald man again, LJ. I have lots of feelings to hyperbolize with them ;_;

(Anonymous) 2012-01-09 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
I think it might have something to do with the keywords used to describe your icon(s).

If I remember correctly from the comments in one of the news posts when LJ blew up before Christmas, if you have icons with more than one keyword, they basically don't work. At all. And your comments revert to your default icon

Try replying to this comment or something with an icon that has one keyword and see if it works. If it does, then try it with one that has multiple keywords. If that comment doesn't reflect the icon you wanted and the one that has only one keyword does, then that's the problem. If not, then I have no fucking clue. :(

I think you're right. Ugh this means I need to go back and edit all of my keywords

[identity profile] dorknessrising.livejournal.com 2012-01-09 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Before you do that, are you running Firefox? And if so, are you running any Greasemonkey scripts?

[identity profile] atlanticmelody.livejournal.com 2012-01-09 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
So many tl;dr secrets.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-09 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Can someone help me out? Occasionally LJ switches to Japanese on me. For example, I'll open a thread in a new window, and suddenly all the LJ links (reply, expand, etc. plus everything in the bar across the top) will be in Japanese. Now I know Japanese, so this isn't a debilitating issue or anything, just... kind of weird. Anyone know how I can fix it?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-09 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Check your location or language settings on LJ? Other than that, I don't know.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-09 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Whereas I'm deliberately switching to random languages as the only fix I've found for the vanishing comments. Cyrillic languages work well, but so do a lot of not-English languages.

Worst cosplay skit idea ever:

Silent Hill Bubblehead Nurses + Pyramid Head + Hare Hare Yukai dance

Sorry, F!S. I had to share that with the world. In the hope that someone out there is twisted enough to do it.
