Yeah... I always cringe a little when people use really rare or made made up names for a OC in a world of fairly normal names. But it's their character, so what're you gonna do?

More importantly, I'm having a hard time getting past how dopey Carver looks. Really, Carver? That's your war face...?

I think I might just have to judge you if your Hawke's name is actually Astrilynne

My Hawkes are called Dude and Babe. Obviously they are the best names, and perfectly fit the atmosphere and nature of Dragon Age.

srsly though I tend to skip over any fic with a named Warden/Hawke that's not a default name. (Although, lol, I am possibly the hugest hypocrite in the land. But yeah, I don't write or read anything these days :( ).

Hawke was just too much fun to pass up names like Ebon, Ethan, and Lady (at least for my non-canon playthroughs, LOL).

I dunno. It's just whatever name you wanted them to be. I mean, not gonna lie. I actually did try to come up with a name that fit with "Bethany," and "Carter." Went with Perdita. But seriously? What's the big deal? If someone wanted to name them "Bobismycopilot" Hawke, then let them. It's their game.

Wait... So should his name start with A because he's the oldest and the other two are B and C or you judge us? Or if it's a non-plain name you judge us?

This thread is cracking me up. Also, I named mine Elena because I thought the default name sounded dumb. Originally, I wanted a red-head to look like my Origins character, but then I realized she didn't match her siblings so I went with the default. /CSB

The various incarnations of Hawkes I've played are named Mike, Thomas, Kai, Fulsh, and Warl (the latter being my mage, obviously). I still giggle when I load a saved game. I love me some lame puns.

I won't even go into the names I've given the dog across the two games. Poor pooch.

I don't mind it so long as they keep it out of fanfiction. I generally prefer the default names, but I much rather read about a Marcus or Gwen than a Elnehn'tu or Adelaide.*

*I've seen both these names while browsing FF.net. I tried to look for a male name, but all the men seemed to have named their Wardens Marcus. I've seen it at least fifteen times and I couldn't find anything weird. I think Elnehn'tu could go both ways though.

Does Icarus Hawke count? And no, it's not supposed to be ~symbolic~ like almost all other characters named Icarus in fiction, he doesn't fly or like flying or have a terrible tragic flaw or something, it's just honestly what I thought fit him. Also, I don't write about him, he's just my in-game Hawke, but I want to know.

I called mine Galvan. It's Gaelic for "sparrow".

It never allowed me to change male Hawke's name O.o. I guess I did something wrong? I was able to change female Hawke's name

Jeffrey if he's got black hair and a beard. It's good to yell when he says something ridiculous. McGee for everyone else (boys and girls) because I'm not very creative and at some point that just became my default name for everyone.

My Hawke naming always went like this "What's a name that starts with H", and ended up making my first one Heidi, next one Harriet, next one Howard

Unfortunately this meant my whole playthrough I couldn't get the idea of varric saying "Heidi Hawke neighboreeno!" Out of my head

Haha, me and my brother are BOTH guilty of this... I gave my Hawke a stock name I usually use for MMORPGS, and he named his Hawke "Professor", so he could be like the Dexter's Lab character.

Honestly though, I never thought this was a big deal, since who the heck calls Hawke anything but Hawke? And even though my brother gave his a joke name, it didn't change his experience of the game at all, and he still took his file seriously. It just seems like a pointless thing to get in arms about, imo.

Also, even if Carver, Bethany, and Garrett/Marian are all pretty ordinary old-fashioned English names, the same can't be said for Leandra and Gamlen. Even in universe, Ferelden names are definitely subject to Aerith and Bob (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AerithAndBob)-ing. Sure, Alistair, Nathaniel, and Duncan sound pretty normal, but what about Eamon, Wynne, Cailan, Mhairi...?
