If they're your favourite author then why aren't you just buying the books? I assume if they're your fave you'd want to read them again...

(This is the OP) I never buy books that I haven't read. No matter how much I like an author, I'm always going to get their latest book from the library before I even consider buying it. That way I don't end up wasting money on something I'm never going to re-read.

This! I have a series of sorts that I really enjoy books 1 and 2 of, so I bought the third and fourth book recently, and they were horrid. I should have just gotten them from the library...

On the flip side, if I've checked out a book from the library repeatedly, I'll just up and buy it, it makes more sense. ♥

So.. you have read every book you own? (Aside from gifts, I suppose). I find that impressive because I own TONS of books and have probably only read 10% of them.

For the most part, yes (not counting gifts, like you said, but I usually end up reading those too). I read very quickly. :)

I do that too! Well, my percentage probably isn't as low as 10% but I'm ashamed to admit how many books I've bought and never got around to reading. I almost never buy fiction either, my bookshelf is almost completely non-fiction

Anyway I'm glad to see I'm not the only one

I always get books from the library when it comes to new authors or genres I'm not exactly in love with but want to sample, that sort of thing. But when it comes to my favourite authors, I will go out and buy their new book without having borrowed it first. The reason they're my fav author is because I like their work so much, and I trust them to entertain me.

Because everyone is made of money? Some of us can't afford to buy the books. js

and the most privilege-showing comment in the thread goes too...
