Not OP, but I read that one. It gets recced quite a bit too, but I thought it was pretty good. Not great, but okay (which might be what OP is complaining about.)

Which, if any, do you consider great, then? I'm not being snarky or anything, I'm genuinely curious. I see people either badmouthing or meh about some of the works I like (in various fandoms, not just this one) without saying stuff they happen to prefer, and they tend to sidestep when I ask. :/ So what fics do you like in this fandom?

Well, I like The Winter of Banked Fires by Yahtzee (which is Erik/Charles post X3 with Wolverine/Rogue thrown in) and I'm usually pretty happy with Devil by PragmaticHominid (it's an Azazel/Raven WIP that has some formatting errors, but it has wonderful character development for most characters.) And I like Heterochromia by lilacsigil (a semi-horror story about the Stryker family.) I tend to read fic for many pairings and genres, so a fic has to have something pretty unique about it for me to remember it, and that seems to be much easier to find in other fandoms, even for other Marvel movies. So much First Class Erik/Charles fic is really similar, and it all kind of blurs into a cloud of "meh."

I do remember the name of the fic you recced, though, so I stand by giving it a "pretty good." That said, I didn't mean to diss one of your favorites so much as give a word of caution to the people looking for recs.

Ahaha, no, I didn't think you were bashing it or whatever, so don't worry about that. :) I just happened to rec something to someone the other day only to have a bunch of people dogpile it as being overrated nonsense without giving any hint as to the sort of thing they seemed to think was good. It made me question my taste in fic a bit.

I'm pretty sure I've read "The Winter of Banked Fires" and liked that one, but I haven't heard of the other two. I'll have to check them out. Thanks. :)

I really liked Yahtzee's story too. :B Kinda stumbled over it though when I was looking for W/R fics, lol.
