I remember reading the book. I slogged through 400 pages of high school drama (seriously, why would you go to school if you're supposed to be keeping a low profile?) and shallow overused tropes (high school bully who's dating main character's love interest, nerdy non-threatening new friend, mysterious animal companion, ugly evil irredeemable bad guys). And when I finally finished, they don't even reveal what's in the box! Nope, gotta buy the next book! At which point I gave up and lost whatever remaining respect I had for the book.

Same. It was like being actually tapped inside a 13-year-old boy's head and it was awful. I'm just glad I never had to be there in real life, haha!
