I remember seeing it, but I can't remember too much about it other than thinking that it was like Twilight for guys. I liked the dog though... There was a dog, right?

[identity profile] hermione-vader.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
There was a dog. It was a size-changing alien beagle.

[identity profile] kanjo-girl.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know much about it. When my brother watched it, he told me that all the minorities died in basically the first few minutes of the movie. So I decided against seeing it.

:/

I can't say that's the problem, but I googled it and apparently a lot people just didn't get the point of the movie. So maybe you could start with google and figure out why people didn't like it if you're that curious.

I enjoyed it too.

Maybe you did watch a different movie. I remember watching it on the plane and didn't get any of this heartwarming emotional depth you're talking about. The characters were card board, the story didn't make sense, and the acting was horrible.

[identity profile] tinitrinity.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing I enjoyed about that movie was 6.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I watched it for Timothy Olyphant and Jake Abel.

Otherwise, it really was a terrible movie. Interesting plot because I love alien stuff, but seriously? Wooden main characters characters and bad acting. I at least sort of liked Number Six. Her snark was enjoyable.

I quite liked it, actually

I thought all the characters were pretty cool... except the main couple

I wish he'd got with Alien Girl instead of Human Girl. Yeah, that's about my only opinon...

I thought the hate comes more from how the book came into existence. I can't remember much but I read an article about how it was written during a writing camp. And the author was told how the characters should be and that the main character had to be male and have dead parents for "depth" idk

[identity profile] neko-9786.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I just remember laughing when his father figure died, turned into dust and was then spread around by the wind which was then pierced by a massive train.

[identity profile] noapologiesx.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's not really about the story itself, it's how it came to be. Maureen Johnson had a really good blog post about it that gives an overview of the issue and her take on it: http://www.maureenjohnsonbooks.com/2010/11/13/the-james-frey-problem/ (http://www.maureenjohnsonbooks.com/2010/11/13/the-james-frey-problem/)

Not in the fandom, but I saw the movie. It was better than I expected and a lot of fun. I got the impression that the actors enjoyed making it. And the mentor/father figure (whose name I can't recall) was great.

It was a good popcorn, Saturday night at home in your jammies movie.

Part of the hate is due to one of the "authors", James Frey. Some in the book world still resent him over the Million Little Piece fiasco.

Really? Sorry, anon, but I went to review this for my school's newspaper, and I didn't really have any expectations for it. I usually love things I don't have expectations for. However, this was one of the most boring, unoriginal things I have ever seen put to film. A couple of the scenes also have terrible lighting, which just signaled to me, "We really don't care all that much. At all." And the characters were hideously one-dimensional (though Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron are gorgeous to look at).

Six was really fit.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't hate it, but I honestly found it very boring.

[identity profile] havemy-heart.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's a total guilty pleasure movie for me, but I still don't think Alex Pettyfer and Dianna Agron have any chemistry. I loved Sam and I ship *him* with John. Six was also pretty fierce.

I remember reading the book. I slogged through 400 pages of high school drama (seriously, why would you go to school if you're supposed to be keeping a low profile?) and shallow overused tropes (high school bully who's dating main character's love interest, nerdy non-threatening new friend, mysterious animal companion, ugly evil irredeemable bad guys). And when I finally finished, they don't even reveal what's in the box! Nope, gotta buy the next book! At which point I gave up and lost whatever remaining respect I had for the book.

[identity profile] firecracker-sj.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I didn't hate it, I didn't love it. It entertained me for an evening, but I felt like way too many questions were left unanswered so in the end it didn't really leave an impression on me.

Sam Goode in I Am Number Four: "My entire childhood was an episode of The X-Files."
My friend Sean: "...but not one of the good ones."

This is my entire memory of that movie.

[identity profile] vicfrankenstein.livejournal.com 2012-01-11 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It felt like it was designed to attract couples. Well, what Hollywood seems to think couples like. I could easily see a traditional couple from almost any movie or TV show walking out of the theatre, with the guy talking about how awesome the actions scenes are and woman talking about how romantic it was. It felt like they made a version of Twilight that men could go see.

I mean, it wasn't bad, but I couldn't help but feel like I was tricked somehow. Thankfully I didn't pay anything to see it.

[identity profile] rivulet027.livejournal.com 2012-01-12 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I've never seen the movie, though I heard the book was good.
