Not gonna lie, I'm WAY more disappointed in the overwhelming ablism in some sections of fandom.

Seriously - he deserved to get shot in the spine, because "now he'll know what it feels like"? What the FUCK are you people on? What the hell makes you think that that's ok to say?

...huh? know what what feels like? did he make fun of people in wheelchairs at some point in the movie (a deleted scene that I am unaware of perhaps?) and people feel like this is his comeuppance?

No. It's all rooted in how he has an invisible mutation where Mystique doesn't and how he hasn't suffered discrimination for who/what he is while Erik has.

Being in a wheelchair he can't "pass" and people are going to judge him as less of a person, to say nothing of the limitations this will put on the kind of life he can lead.

Because all prejudice is the same and people who have suffered prejduice are never in any way prejudiced themselves.

damn, that's pretty ridiculous. I guess I'm lucky to have never met anyone in the fandom who is like that (do they hang out on tumblr or something? I don't really go there much)

I've come across it, but nowhere recently. Hopefully at least a couple have realised how problematic some of that shit was.
