I'm a lesbian and I love yuri, can even relate to a lot of stories, but the idea that yuri is free from problems while yaoi/slash isn't bothers me. Like it's being made into a versus thing (not saying that is what you meant by your secret, OP). I've found some BL stories that broke the stereotypes just as helpful to me as yuri stories in coming to terms with my sexuality. I don't know, I guess I'm just sick of some yuri fans talking about how stupid yaoi fangirls are, how they fetishize homosexuality, when yuri itself isn't free from problems (and this does not make the genre bad!).

OP I know what you mean, and yeah, I didn't try to create a versus wank. In fact, I was wondering whether to even put the part into the secret because it does seem a bit all high and mighty. I've read and liked both GL and BL, and I've seen both good and terrible stories.

To add some bad GL stuff I've run across, so that I don't seem too one-sided: There's a story about a girl who was raped by a boy and has developed a fear of men. It's not stated if that's what "turned" her into a lesbian (thank god!), but it skirts that line. And I honestly don't like this trope. I don't want homosexuality to be portrayed as something resulting from violence. Well, anyways, the other girl is quite aggressive and basically harasses her. In the end, it turns out that this girl also has had bad experiences with guys. She then proceeds to tell the other girl that women may be passive, but they are the "healing gender" and can't hurt each other.

This. Thank you.
I'm so sick of the "Yaoi vs Yuri" thing. I wish yuri fandom would stop making comparisons between the two genres already, and instead just focus on it's own merits. Cultivating more fanworks and making the community a more welcoming place is important. I feel like yuri won't ever gain lasting success and popularity until fans stop with the dark cloud of bitterness and hatred towards yaoi. It's like for some people, the hate overshadows their love of yuri itself.

Everything else in your secret was beautiful and positive, and I agree with it.
