[Robin Of Sherwood/Michael Praed]

YAY, Robin of Sherwood secret!

*cough*

He wanted to break into Broadway/American television, thinking he'd make more money over here.

But I agree; I would've preferred him staying on for a third season.

[identity profile] dolimir-k.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, he left that series to become the Prince of Moldavia on Dynasty. He was Catherine Oxenburger's love interest. He was killed off at the end of that season.

[identity profile] evil-little-dog.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Before he became the Prince of Moldavia on Dynasty, he was D'artagnan in the musical of The Three Musketeers. Which ran for...about two seconds on Broadway, and then he got the job with Dynasty.

But his reason for leaving RoS was for The Three Musketeers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Musketeers_%28musical%29), or so he told us at a convention in the '80's, where I got him to sign a promo pic of him as D'artagnan. If I had a scanner, I'd scan in the picture!

Yes, he came over here to do the Three Musketeers play on Broadway (I saw it closing night. It only lasted a week after opening. But it was fun!) and then he went on to do American TV & movies. More money to be honest.

Woot! Robin of Sherwood!

Praed will always be my favorite Robin, but I do recommend watching Series 3. There are some great episodes and Jason Connery does a good job. I like the show's solution in using the nobleman's side of the legend for his character, rather than just hiring another actor to be the same character of Loxley. It really works.

hey, so i was lurking at your LJ because your username was intriguing and I saw some icons I'd love to snertch if they're up for grabs? :)

Absolutely. Take whatever your heart desires. :)

omg, memories. Since the mid 80s when Showtime was running this series, this has been my Robin. Always. Jason Connery was good, and I liked him, but nothing compares to Michael Praed being all Robinish.

He left because the biggest prime time series in the world at that time, Dynasty, courted him to come play a one dimensional character that disappeared nearly as soon as he appeared. I was fourteen and shattered when I watched the end of the second series. Thank God for DVDs. I have both the first and second series safe and sound in my bookshelf and as long as I never watch the end episode, I can pretend the show went on with MP. *insane head nod*

On my DVDs he talks about leaving in order to do "The Three Musketeers" on Broadway which completely flopped. It's a shame really, as I felt that story-wise the show really improved in season three - it would have been nice to see him take the role through to the end. Though I liked Jason Connery too, and they did some interesting things with the legacy of Robin's name.

Conspiracy theory time: I actually blame this show for the 2006 version trying to recreate the "shock value" of Robin's death by killing off their Marian at the end of series two. Except it really, really, really didn't work.

[identity profile] dark-angel-isla.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
OH! I was SO pissed at the end of the 2006 version season 2 when Marian died! I didn't realize at the time that it was simply for "shock value" because that's never a good sign. Marian was well-developed and killing her off just made me hate the last season even more...though I did eventually watch it.

Oh, Michael Praed. He is so very gorgeous.
*happy sigh*

I've never watched the third season, either.

[identity profile] kira-iras.livejournal.com 2012-01-14 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You should give it a try.

I like all seasons, although I agree that I always liked Michael Praed more and I'm still unhappy about the cliffhanger ending.

I did get the first disc for the third series off of Netflix so I'll give it a try.

Agreed, and haven't watched season 3 either (not sure if I watched any when I was a child, so I can say that I haven't, in a way). :)

YAY! A RoS secret.

I will never forgive him either, though I'm too young for crying about it. But, honestly, they honestly thought about writing him back in. And, there is a script penned by Richard Carpenter about how he's actually not dead but alive, or something weird like that. Idk. We shall see...

I met Mark Ryan at a comic convention and he was so happy when I came up to him bringing my Robin of Sherwood Series 1 & 2 DVDS. :) He signed them for free and he took a picture with me.
