Vampirism really is a bit of a sex metaphor the way Bram did it. Both rape and std's encompassed in one.

It's not something I thought about when the movie came out, or the years since, because of all the costuming and music video wind and sexiness, but you're right. Lucy was raped. She wouldn't have chosen that, with him, and her agency was taken by whatever Jedi mind tricks he used on her. She's like a shell in those screen caps, with no will.

It's kind of horrifying now that I'm thinking about it without all the window dressing.

And I say this as a fan of vampire movies.

It's been that way since the original novel, really. The movie emphasized the one aspect but that was always there from the get go.

As compensation for this disquieting fact I apparently put in your head... have some kate beaton interpretation!
