Ugh. I couldn't stand the last 30min of this episode. I shipped it until then.

THIS. The whole point of a story written in 1891 - a WOMAN outsmarted Holmes. Apparently Moff can't bear that idea because we wimmin are all so needly and dependent. DIAF.

wasn't the whole point kind of that both sherlock and irene "slipped up" when it came to eachother? i thought they implied pretty heavily that sherlock had some attachment to her, or at least treated her differently than he did most people.

their relationship was definitely more romantic than it was in doyle's but it was also a lot more adversarial. sherlock might've won in the end, but irene outsmarted him to a greater extent in the bbc version than she did in the original story, imo.

Blech, I hate that such a great episode stumbled so hard at the end, in my opinion. I love the show, but I think in general they tend to miss their landings on the endings (Great Game excluded). The set up is always so much more interesting, and you don't end up with silly-women-thinking-with-their-hearts-and-vaginas.

But yes, their early scenes were amazingly hot. Him on the floor with the riding crop on his face was epic.

I think a lot of people, me included, were off put by the fact that her attraction/love/lust for Sherlock was what caused her ultimate downfall and made her use a stupid password. Sherlock gets to stand tall as the pinnacle of reason and intellect, while she is brought to her knees because of her connection with emotion and sexuality. Add in to this the fact that this attraction for a man runs counter to her professed sexuality, and it does start to look bad. All of her plans crumble around her and she has to be rescued because of how much she wanted a man she met three times.

I go back and forth on what I think about Irene and this episode, but I do think there is a strong undercurrent of misogyny in the episode's third act. And from what I've seen, a fair amount of people agree, but there are just as many arguing the opposite. Whatever you take from it, I guess.

The only woman I could ever see him with (in one way or another).

I don't think they've ever definitively stated in canon that Sherlock IS asexual or actually a virgin [Mycroft just thinks so], just saying

Also I'll never not LOL at 'fans' who 'will stop watching if X happens'

All that said, Sherlock/Irene in any capacity, sexual or not, is just hot, and I am a hardcore slasher, yo
