Holy crap a VHD novel secret. I agree, though OP. As pessimistic as the novels tend to be, I always hoped that she kept her promise. Maybe not as a traveling salesperson, but even if it's just her and the kid out on the Frontier on their own.

Pilgrimage is one of my favorite of the VHD novels. I was completely heart broken when Lance died, because I wanted him and Tae to have a happy ending together more than anything. ;_; I know it's horror series, but holy crap would one unquestionably happy ending kill Hideyuki kikuchi?

The sales person thing is because I thought it was one of the most unlikely and ridiculous things a dhampir could do. I'm not talking selling practical things like weapons, I'm talking "rare ancient relics" like vegan cook books, and Don Knotts DVDs.

I love imagining a vampire (after being given an incredibly convincing spiel by a cheerful, if by now gravely wounded salesperson) going through said relic sales stash, muttering, "Nope... nope... ooh, The Incredible Mr. Limpet! ...What, no Blu-ray? Damn."

Pilgrimage was one of my favorites too but by favorite of all time was Pale Fallen Angel. I fell in love with Baron Balasz, I honestly did. Kikuchi always creates such any amazing supporting cast, it's a shame he's obsessed with killing them.

Also, the mental image of someone going around pawning random crap from our era is wonderful. Imagine what they might end up thinking had real value?
