No one's saying you can't reply. Only that replying makes it pretty obvious you do care after all, and a troll will be on that like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle on a pepperoni thin crust with extra cheese. And all I'm saying is that you could communicate that people are wasting their time a lot better by not replying, rather than proving they aren't. Because their aim is to get you to reply (hint: they don't actually care about your use of "retarded", either; they're just trying to piss you off, and social justice is trendy right now). If you reply, their time isn't wasted (from their point of view).

You care in that you're upset people are calling you out on it, because it makes you look bad. If you did not care about what they thought, then why reply just to say they're "wasting their time"? Why not prove it by not giving them the time of day?
