The sickle and the hammer are used by all countries' communist parties, it is not exclusive to the USSR.

I think the bigger difference is that while leaders of the former USSR committed similar atrocities as the Nazis against their own people after WWII, under the symbols of the hammer and sickle, you don't have people using that same hammer and sickle to deny those atrocities even happened, or worse yet, to say that such genocide was right, and someone needs to finish the job.

There may not be an "official" Nazi party anymore, but there is a terrifyingly large number of people who subscribe to the ideology that the swastika represents, and use the symbol (though on a much smaller scale) to intimidate and oppress others to this very day. That is why the swastika is outlawed.

The same leaders committed genocide using the Black Eagle and Teutonic Cross (WWI too as the German Empire) as a pivotal symbols. The German government still uses the Black Eagle and the Teutonic Cross.

I think that is the point: Neither the eagle nor the cross are solely associated with Nazi Germany, they stand for things besides that and were misused by Nazi propaganda for their purporses. If Germany would ban all the stuff the Nazis used you woud not only get bans on Wagner or Nietzsche (which are btw. really not synonymous with Nazi ideology) but also stuff like the Christian cross etc.. I agree with the ban on the (Nazi) Hakenkreuz but banning stuff that was not used exclusively by Nazis is just censurship. which is why the Swastika is not banned. The eagle has seen many different forms and unless the exact Nazi version is used the symbol does not stand for them.

You do realize that the swastika is an ancient symbol appropriated by the Nazis, right? And that religious Eastern groups still use it, right?

I thought the symbols in Asia pointed in the other direction, and that the symbol as used by the Nazis can be found in Native American heritage.

Good points. I have yet to find a modern communist who denies Stalin's crimes or say they were right. Maybe I've been lucky /has tons of communist friends.

Yeah, I meant people who are politically active in any kind of communist party, or even socialist one. I have communist friends and no one really supports Stalin... IDK, it may be that Communism has an ideology that is not murderous crap so one can dissociate from the crimes committed in its name?
