Maybe I am the only one but I see many things that are similar between the books and the movies. But maybe is just many and mu crazy imagination.

No, you are not alone. :)

Agreed. Been an avid reader of the books for years. Started to re-read the adventures and thought that the film version is very faithful to the canon than most would give credit for versus the television series.

This is coming from someone that appreciates both the film and television series as a whole.

Not alone. :)

There's a great deal of canon in the movies. And I know more people who went from the movies to the books than from the BBC series to the books.

Me, I've been a Sherlockian for decades, and I love them both. And Granada. And the Russian series. And the Ronald Howard series. And for that matter the Geoffrey Whitehead... er, um, yup, as long as there's a decent Watson, I'm pretty much a fan!

Not the only one, but I certainly see very little similarity myself.

The Granada series (for all its occasional cheesiness) knocks all other versions into a cocked hat, IMO.

The one, the only Sherlock Holmes worth a damn. Second place to Russian Holmes.

I love Russian Holmes. It's flawless. Holmes is great, Watson is great, and their chemistry is great. And it's just a great adaption overall.

AYRT

It's not quite flawless to me because of the mix and match approach to the stories and the fact that Eastern Europe doesn't look anything like London (though they try hard) - plus they have some truly strange minor casting choices. But Solomin Watson: he pretty.

So agreed! The settings and such don't matter to me as mmuch as the characters and how they interact.

[identity profile] rebness.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
No, I agree with you. I see more of a connection between the films and the books than the TV series and the books.

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Not the only one. I've had a lot of discussions with my aunt over my insistance that the movies aren't that far off as people say...

[identity profile] sweet-children9.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
People base many of their headcanon sherlock on the Granada series. Maybe that is the reason

[identity profile] luxshine.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
YEah, I'm pretty sure that is it, even if my aunt swears she has read the books.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Bearing in Mind Granada (and Brett) sticks to the books like a limpet ( one or two eps and later seasons somewhat [occasionally a lot] excepted), that is hardly surprising.
It simply IS more faithful: it was designed to be so.
What pisses many Granada fans off more is the way Ritchie (and many movies fans who haven't even seen Granada) engage in knocking copy, trying to say it's "stodgy". Brett? Stodgy? Hahahahaha.
