I enjoy both in different ways. Sherlock feels more like a legit, dramatic adaptation. The movies feel more like a parody. A damn good parody but it's more entertainment than it is srs bsns. For me at least.

Same here. Hard to choose between them, or other adaptations, because I like and watch them for nearly different reasons. One's like a fun contemporary au that watches like a sweet little fanfic, and the other is basically a comic book movie.

If this is an issue of which one its closer to the source material though, I'd rather just read the books.

Yeah what's closer to the books doesn't really bother me because....I have the books. :P Which I am finally reading. I don't think an adaptation, whether it's a character-driven drama or an action packed buddy movie, has to follow the source material exactly to be good - as long as it's entertaining in it's own right and still has the same point as the original.
