Wow, that was uncalled for.

It makes no sense to try and shelter people (like me) who are against abortion from the fact that it exists... and then turn around and imply that people who struggle with self-harm are just being special snowflakes and need to suck it up. >.>

I agree that it makes sense to warn for abortion since for some, it could trigger some, for people who were forced into one or something. However, that doesn't make other trigger warnings less valid.

Stopped reading there.

Being pro-life triggers me. Fuck-off.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you have a healthy way to deal with people who don't have the same political opinion as you.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a political opinion, you douchecanoe. Abortion is a personal medical decision that should be the business of the person having or considering an abortion, and no one else. So fuck you, pro-lifer. You're disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's a political opinion by definition, whether you like it or not.

It must take a lot of energy to have that kind of blanket hate for such a large percentage of the population. :/

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
DA

It actually doesn't take much energy to hate people who think I shouldn't have the right to decide who uses my body. Wanting to take away my rights is a behavior that makes it easy to hate someone.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting, I generally think of hatred as a very draining feeling that I can only feel for so long before I just want to let it go.

The thing that makes it seem particularly difficult to me would be the large amount of people that includes. Maybe where you live there aren't that many pro-lifers or something, but it's about fifty percent where I live. Do you, like, ask everyone you meet what their position on abortion is so you know whether you hate them or not? If not, what happens when you become friends with someone and then find out they're pro-life? Do you just break off that friendship and never talk to them again?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't you special.

Why yes, fyi, thinking you have any say over what goes on with my uterus is a dealbreaker. You and your ilk are scum and I want nothing to do with you.

Generally I'm willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, until they express a heinously offensive belief or opinion. Then we're done. Wanting to take away my right to my own body and turn me into a brood-mare for the state is a heinously offensive opinion. I don't spend my spare time concentrating on hating these people, but when they impinge on my awareness, that's the response they get. Not draining at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, grow up.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh shut up, you moron. I'm as pro-choice as the next pro-choicer, but responding to pro-lifers with hatred and insults is not the way to go. Nor is it going to change anyone's opinion on abortion. It's just immature and pathetic.

[identity profile] kribban.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's the personal medical decision to not volunteer your body to safe the life of your offspring. It is absolutely a medical decision since pregnancy always comes with a risk, but to imply that it's a medical decision akin to having your appendix removed is very callous. Abortion always mean that something, or someone, depending on your philosophy, dies.

[identity profile] weekendoffender.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 07:13 am (UTC)(link)
To some people it is akin to having my appendix removed. I certainly treated my abortion as such. You may not feel that way, but many women do so please do not talk like you know how everyone feels about the subject.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Better safe than sorry. I'd rather offend someone like you than the majority who are logical enough to understand there's a big difference between a foetus and an appendix.

[identity profile] weekendoffender.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, so because I don't treat my own abortion with some kind of importance that you think I should, then I should't be treated with respect?

Most women who have abortions aren't anywhere close to drowning in depression afterwards like the anti-choice want to pretend. Majority=not what you think.

[identity profile] kribban.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry. I wasn't very clear. I didn't mean the emotions of the women who have abortions, I meant the ethics surrounding abortion (and by extension how various people may react to the
topic. Abortion always mean the death of something/someone and that's why it's different from regular medical treatment.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
Chemo causes the death of tumor cells, sugar, and antibiotics kill bacteria. Quit talking out of your ass.

"to imply that it's a medical decision akin to having your appendix removed is very callous"

I agree with this.

NAYRT
I love how close-minded you are. We're not all the same.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
For calling out the ignorance of that self-harm comment: thank you. That was *really* uncalled for. Self-harm is a real problem, not just done for attention 99% of the time, very easily triggered for some people, and the anon who made that comment is just making themselves sound like an ignorant asshole. Especially the perpetuation of that "emo kid" stereotype, UGH. That entire comment is just disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
That pissed me off too. I've never cut, but I've had serious depression issues, and I can understand the sorts of awful feelings that could lead somebody down that road. Not something to mock as being emo kids. What the hell.

[identity profile] intrigueing.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. I'm sure there are a few stupid emo kids who cut because they want to seem like special snowflakes out there, but the vast majority of people who self-harm have genuinely legitimate problems and have actual emotional reactions to the subject. Assuming people who self-harm are all emo kids is either disgustingly insensitive or really misinformed.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Even though I can't thank you for wanting to make my body public property, I am glad you spoke up to defend self-harm trigger warnings. Mental health and self-harm are actual, serious issues that people close to me have struggled with, and they really don't need to be dismissed that way.
