I still don't understand how the name Tangled was less girly than Rapunzel. It always makes me think of long, tangled hair, which generally/stereotypically most young boys don't have and would be more likely to associate with girls.

"Tangled" can bring to the mind just about everything that could be tangled up.
"Rapunzel" only reminds of "Rapunzel". Boys don't want to go watch "Rapunzel".
Here it was actually distibuted as "Rapunzel" (because english titles are cool and the story is called "Raperonzolo" in italian) and the little boys I know where only interested in it until they asked what the title meant and I told them.
