Some of the fandom is a bad thing. Some of the fandom is a scary thing.

The fact that one of the major fandom sites actually sent a link of a melodramatic fic to the creators and stated--with no irony--that it is "the fandom favourite" is creepy at best.

The creators have been having fun "trolling" the fandom(Moffat was on a roll the past two days). It's all done with tongue firmly in cheek.

However, the moment the actors dare to say that they find some of the fic and art "scary" they are somehow "hating" on the entire fandom??

NO.

The actors and creators of the show are just that actors and creators they are not Sherlock and John. They are not Mycroft and Molly. These are real people with real lives and real families.

The Sherlock fandom has done some scary things. "Rack's" for instance. A fan that stalked and hassled Benedict Cumberbatch relentlessly. A photo of Martin Freeman's children has been posted more than once on a the kink meme. Fans have crashed the sets to the point of needing security.

No fandom is free of frightening fans. Sherlock however, with its surge of tumblr users, has had more of its share. Fans are now wanting to spam Moffat with pictures of themselves crying(this further proves the fact that many tumblr fans are one wave short of a shipwreck. Steve Thompson wrote the damn final episode. Oh, and you know...that guy Doyle)

The people who work on the series should speak out on the behaviour of these fanatics. It does not make them "mean". It makes it known that they are uncomfortable with certain behaviour.

The fact that people find it "mean" that Freeman doesn't like his kids pictures posted and Cumberbatch doesn't like being sent NC-17 drawings of him fucking his fellow actors further shows how unstable these fans are.

It's not "mean" to be scared and disgusted by certain fandom behaviour and to bring it to light, to speak on it and to make it known. It's right.

Yes. Freemans photos have been posted twice now on the kink meme. Here's the raks thing (http://www.journalfen.net/community/wank_report/888.html?thread=6569848). Cumberbatch was interviewed and asked about what the weirdest thing a female fan had done...he mentioned the above. More than once porn art, RPF, and other fic and such has been tweeted to the actors and creators.

It's not okay. And the secret's attitude is the attitude of many a fan. I almost cringe to admit I like this show because I don't want to be grouped in with these people.

*headdesk* This is why I stick to reading fic and not press releases and meta. Because I don't want to taint my experience of the show. Why on earth would anyone want to alienate the actors and writers who make these good things for us by handing them stuff any reasonable person would blush to be caught reading on the subway? Or passing around pictures of someone's kids? Because it's just plain wrong. Something similar practically destroyed another fandom I was in years ago and created such bad feeling that I abandoned all my WIPS and couldn't even look at a picture of the source material for over a decade.

OP, stick to the fic and avoid the meta. Like the characters and not the actors. You'll be happier in the long run. Really.
