(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 02:14 am (UTC)(link)and honestly, you don't even have to go to japan to realize this. when i was in high school, i did a paper about anime and i had the ignorant idea that 1) america was copying japan 2) thanks to some "friends", japan wants to look white.
once i actually did some research about it (back in the early days of the internet), i learned that those notions are wrong wrong wrong especially so since i also found out that the hair/eye color doesn't even matter in the story unless it's somehow relevant. in fact, i found out that the hair color actually represents a character's personality more outwardly than anything else.
and being in america, this culture tried to teach me that we are what everyone strives to be and i realized, thankfully at an early age, that's not only fucking selfish and self-centered but it's also very ignorant and i was pretty sure japan didn't care what a 15 year old hispanic american teenager thought about yaoi.
