Don't let a fandom ruin a show for you! Just stay away from the fandom and rewatch, and see if you can forget about the fandom and enjoy the show's canon on its own merits.

/doesn't watch the show (yet) and knows nothing about the fandom, so feel free to point out why I'm wrong.

...details? I want to get into in, but finding it hard to find a fandom at all. I've read some absolutely lovely Annie/Troy/Abed and Troy/Abed, though.

Finding the general fandom wasn't that difficult, but yeah, I love those ships as well and it's hard to find people to squee about it with. There is fic for it (and most of it is great), but the shippers for those ships don't seem to be that connected with each other.

community_tv and Community Things on Tumblr (http://communitythings.tumblr.com) are pretty great, but since the shows currently not airing they are a little quieter than normal.

I agree. I mean, I like the show, but the fandom tires me out. Sometimes, there can be a poll on the internet that Community doesn't win.

This makes me oddly happy that I don't do the fandom scene for all my shows (mostly because I have no need to read fanfics and such for most of it)...

Other times I feel really lonely when I am the only one of my friends who actually cares about half my shows and want to join the fandom just to see that I am not alone...

Oh and I feel sorry for you! It sucks to have stuff ruined because of other people!

You pretty much said everything I came here to say.

I don't really get fandom involvement. I read the occasionally fic, but mostly I just enjoy my shows. I suppose it'd be cool to get excited with other people now and then, but fandom just seems like so much work.

I stick to the fringes of this fandom because I find the anti-Annie and anti-Britta sentiment (that I highly suspect are fueled by shipping wars) to be really off-putting. I CAN LIKE BOTH CHARACTERS AND ALSO ONLY SHIP ONE OF THE SHIPS. Just because I ship Jeff/Annie doesn't mean I hate Britta. And like, idk. I just hate it when female characters are pitted against each other.

Seriously though. I follow the tumblr confessions blog and I die a little bit inside everytime there's one pitting these two against each other :/

I don't ever get into fandoms of shows I dearly love. Community is one of them, along with Psych.

I know I would loose faith in humanity. Or something close.

But, to be honest, I've seen some of the fandom in the anon meme. They piss me off. I've never posted there but, honestly? Why would you bash everyone who likes Annie and/or ships her with Jeff? Mature. Real mature.

I love Community so damn much all on its own that I've never felt the need to go looking for fandom. Canon is enough for me, in this case. But it really sucks that apparently the fandom is so bad that it actually puts people off this wonderful show. It legit makes me sad, even though I have no interest in the fandom. :(

It's actually one of the best fandoms I've been it, but I don't ship Jeff/Annie or Jeff/Britta, so that might be why. ~~Also almost everything looks good after you've been in K-Pop fandom.~~

I'm not THAT into the fandom, but I've never been particularly put off by it, and I think that part of it is that I also don't ship Jeff/Annie or Jeff/Britta. I don't really ship Jeff/anyone, actually. If I did, I think I'd probably ship Jeff/Shirley.

Too bad. It's an awesome show.

Fandom is wide and varied, though. The LJ corner might not carry the same attitudes as a stand-alone message board community, or the Facebook community, or whatever. I'd recommend UseNet, but I forgot that I am a dinosaur and UseNet is kinda near-extinct.

One question, out of curiosity... Is the Annie/Abed ship popular? I think it's kinda neat.

The Annie/Abed ship is sorta popular--it comes up on tumblr. Not as popular as Annie/Jeff & Britta/Jeff. But it's out there and a lot of people like it. :) I like it too. But I'm too busy in my Britta/Troy world.

If the fandom's sucky, just leave it and try to forget the drama when you watch the show (speaking as someone who diligently avoids all online discussion of Doctor Who unless I want the wank).

That's the only way to enjoy the Doctor Who fandom.

Oh, please. If you let other people ruin it for you, that's your fault. You determine your own experience.

I can relate. The Office fandom ruined the show for me back around the fourth season (so much so I gave the show up), and since then I've vowed to NEVER do TV fandom again. It sucks.

I'm a new fan and have been considering checking the fandom out. Thanks for the heads up! I don't want another Doctor Who experience on my hands D:
