This is a cute secret. :) And hey, I bet finding whatever you'd want to read on a kindle is much easier.

This is a cute secret. :)

I agree! It made me go "Awww..." (-:

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
I don't want one quite so extravagant, but someday I want to get a house and line the walls with filled bookshelves. But since I don't have the space for that, Kindle to the rescue! Kindle has also been great for catching up on classics because they're free or very cheap.

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
You don't even need that much room if you utilize your space correctly.

Case in point:

(It's a staircase! That's also a bookshelf! How cool is this???)

This secret is adorable and just made me feel better about all the books I own and/or have read that aren't in a place as cool as that library. :)

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, me too! /high five

Seriously, and Epic Library is perhaps the best romantic gift anyone could ask for, trufax.

[identity profile] mihnn.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Me too! :-)

That library just kind of freaked me out by its sheer size. Can you imagine falling off one of those ladders trying to get a book on the very very top shelf?

Anyway, I hate ebooks

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's the other thing. No safety gear required with a kindle. ;p

Eh, I've been reading so much fic online for so long, ebooks weren't much of a transition.

[identity profile] writerserenyty.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
this is sweet, and totally accurate! I have a Nook Tablet that I carry with me everywhere (it's amazing for my hour-long tube commutes!), and it's incredible to think that with that I'm carrying every Jane Austen novel, every Sherlock Holmes story, dozens more books and magazines. It blows my mind sometimes. It is less visually impressive as a massive library, but it's still great!!

[identity profile] captain-emily.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't technology wonderful?

I would love to have a library of that size, but I don't see it ever happening. For now, I'm content with my little spare bedroom-turned-library. It's not that big, and it doesn't have one-tenth of the books shown in the secret, but it's still my favorite room in the house.

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
OH MY GOD THAT LIBRARY HAS BEEN MY FONDEST DREAM SINCE I WAS A CHILD AS WELL

....but come to think of it, that's pretty legit. Right on! You're also totally saving trees yayuhh

[identity profile] dgcatanisiri.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Epic library is still epic and I still want one in my future home, even if I'm never going to have a castle of my own.

I'm still uncomfortable with kindles/nooks, anything that takes a physical book out of my hands. It's the full tactile experience that I want from reading. So I'm unlikely to get the portable library, which just makes the idea of having Beast's library all the more a special idea.

[identity profile] lovelycudy.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
+1

The full tactile experience is love. And don't forget about how great books smell!

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's definitely lacking compared to real books, but it's really convenient. I no longer have to pick my purse/bag based on what will fit the book I'm reading. At least the Kindle Fire feels a bit more like a book because the turning-page motion is done with a finger, not a button.

[identity profile] angelus7988.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Don't forget the wonderful smell books have.

[identity profile] kycoo.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
But what about the ladders? Can't replicate those on the Kindle. (Although I am supremely jealous that you have so many books. *o*)

[identity profile] lovelycudy.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
While that is a bit too flashy, ebooks have never fulfil me like books do. I just, IDK, prefer the old way of reading. But ebooks have been useful when I can't get the actual books, so.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm weird. I will often get ebooks when they are free, and if I find it awesome enough I will buy a print version to 'keep' if I have enough money. Outside of that, the ebooks I buy are usually very modern. Recent biographies, light-hearted fluff books, etc. It is incredibly handy to have a library in the palm of my hand (go-go ipod kindle app!) when waiting around places or on my break at work.

On the other hand, if I admire the author enough or know I will want to keep the book for a long time and re-read it, I will buy print. Isabel Allende is one such author for me, as is Junot Diaz. And any brilliant writer who wrote before the invention of the internet.

I want that library so bad.

[identity profile] kryptoncat.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
DO YOU REALLY HAVE THAT MANY BOOKS ON YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICE BECAUSE THAT IS QUITE A LOT OF BOOKS.

I use my iphone half of the time nowadays for my reading, but I am definitely lining books along my walls when I have my own house.

(The library in Bedknobs and Broomsticks was pretty impressive to me as a kid, as well!)

I will laugh like a hyena the day screencaps of our digital media libraries make into photoblogs like Asexual Porn (http://asexualporn.tumblr.com).

Because you are so right, and now I want to kick myself for not realizing how awesome it is to be alive right now with all these books I can pick from one device. I totally already live in a portable library. Loving thissssss.

[identity profile] lit-wolf.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
OP, if you're happy with your nook/kindle/ereader, then I'm very happy for you.

But, truth be told, this Secret makes me sad. Because, while ereaders are great and all, I never want to live in a world where libraries are gone and all that stands in their place is a website to buy books from. Borders already closed down; I hope other bookstores and libraries aren't following in its path.

I have a mini-library in my house. Not big and fancy like the one in BatB but it's perfect for me. And, when I move, that library is going to follow me everywhere. I have no plans to part with it any time soon.
