What's so awesome about the MCU is that it's just rife with awesome crack opportunities. Everyone freaks out over Steve/Tony and Loki and what have you and I'm just like, "Hey, did you guys find that fill where Cap figures out how Twitter works?"

Are you me? I wanted a huge fandom for them, but now just I hate the new fics and the way the characters are treated. The art's amazing, but it's just not the same. Those who haven't read the comics just don't get things righ.

What I don't get is the "it's completely unimportant and you're elitist if you prefer me to have read it" attitude toward the original canon.

In the print-canon-made-into-movies fandoms I've been in previously, people generally agreed that it was better to, say, actually read the HP books rather than just watch the movies, and it wasn't seen as some kind of get-off-my-lawn snotty elitist opinion.

<is one of the new readers, though not a writer for the fandom Honestly though... so far it is still drama free and a pretty nice place. Admittedly, I am infrequently in the fandom, but still? Ah well. I guess some just like the small communities, which is fine.

Eh, the only thing I really hate about it is the Flanderization in fluffy pieces. Like, guys, Cap fought in World War II. He's seen crap most people can't imagine and has killed loads of people. He's just NOT going to be crying over movies and being too shy to talk to people and blushing at the mention of sex, even if he is kind of gentle and awkward and old-fashioned. There's a line where natural tendencies end and logic sets in.

I think his 'innocence' gets overemphasizing largely for story-kink purposes. It's a dynamic that hits a lot of people in the id.

Steve's meant to be kind of jaded and bitter in the Avengers film, so maybe things will change after that.

Fair enough, but it's not captain america. In comics or in movies.

Cap saw more people then Bucky die. A lot more. On both sides. Often with his own actions being in part responsible for those deaths.

He is nothing close to innocent. Wholesome, a bit of a boy scout, but as said above, he's not going to be blushing if somebody's talking about sex either. What do you think soldiers in a bar talked about? Baseball?

I kinda get it... but I think itwill be better. A new medium usually equals alot of new influx into fandom and right now that means that everybody and their grandmother tries to write the pairing. Some will leave after the Avengers film and the ones who will stay will probably the ones to enrich the fandom. Just give it a little time.

and there's usually a strong line separating the fandoms centered around each medium. batman fic based on the comics is completely different from batman fic based on the films, same for the x-men, same for superman/smallville.

what i think is peculiar about the avengers fandom is that the influx is preceding the movie, so there's no line yet.

Ehh...I came in the fandom a bit before the surge of new writers came and I sorta agree I guess?

Maybe I wanted more 616/MA:A SteveTony fic and I hoped the new people would get interested in the comics when they saw the movies...

Though the Movieverse fandom annoys me with the favoritism of certain characters/pairing and the neglect of others(If I see another Avengers graphic that excludes Bruce yet has Loki part of the Avengers I swear....).

Avengers fandom is more diverse now than it's ever been, honestly. Now at least one doesn't have to search for days to find anything that ISN'T Steve/Tony. In fact, I'm so freakin' thrilled at the influx of new fans (and by extension new ships!) that I can barely contain the glee!

FINALLY stuff that doesn't use all the other characters as props and cameos! THANK GOODNESS!

That sounds intriguing, actually. It would be like creating a Star Wars graphic that makes Darth Vader look like he's fighting for the Rebels. It's still not fair to leave the Hulk out, though.
