I love this movie too, idgaf.

[identity profile] smittenlotus.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Dogma is awesome, and I'm agnostic. Just because you have different beliefs it doesn't mean you can't enjoy a film about a religion you don't take part in.

I think this movie was pretty much meant for atheists, OP.

It's one of my favourites, too.

[identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I loved this movie when I was Catholic, I still love it as an atheist. It's hilarious and it walks a fine line between respect and irreverence that I think makes it acceptable to most people with a sense of humor.

I LOVE this movie to bits. *fanboys*

[identity profile] captain-emily.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's not my favorite movie ever, but I love it too.

That movie is AMAZING. And I am as atheistic as they come.

[identity profile] phoeliac.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Love this film as an atheist, and always thought that a lot of it could be interpreted in a faithful way. Rufus' statement about the importance of belief, even if you're not religious certainly seemed that way to me.

[identity profile] ikabod11.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm an athiest too and I love that movie. I remember watching it with my Catholic sister and brother-in-law and having to explain it all to them. Sad when an athiest knows more about your religion than you do.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
So atheists are not allowed to like movies with religious themes now? Psh!
And not gonna lie, the shit demon scene scared the hell out of me when I saw it for the first time. I think the movie pleases fans of horror.

[identity profile] seishin.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Dogma is one of my favourite movies too. You have flawless taste, OP.

[identity profile] oflittlebrain.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, me too! I don't think that should be too surprising, though? I think this movie has a lot to offer both atheists and horror fans.

(My favorite part still might be Jay & Silent Bob identifying as pro-choice. It was just so great coming from them. Also, Alanis Morissette as God.)

One more atheist who loves this film! It was fucking hilarious.

Also, I don't think you have to be religious to like things with religious themes. I mean, one of my favorite books is Good Omens and I watch Supernatural. /shrug

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Is that...a bad thing??

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
I think this movie is absolutely brilliant. Dogma is a perfect blend of humor and drama. Loki and Bartelby are amazingly written characters. Also, I can't believe they deleted this scene because it adds a whole other layer to the movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9qAqwIW704

In my opinion, Kevin Smith's best and one of my top ten.

I'm Wiccan and I love the hell out of that movie. I've been trying to find a DVD copy around here for ages.

All I got from this was someone who has good taste in movies.

Is this really a secret? I've haven't met a single person who hasn't liked this movie. And it was totally meant for less religious. Actual hardcore religious people wouldn't dare make fun of themselves so acutely.

This Jew loves Dogma! In fact, it's the only Kevin Smith film I really, really enjoy (the rest never grabbed me the same way). I loved the cast, loved the plot, loved the message about faith and belief.
(Alan Rickman as Metatron didn't hurt either.)

[identity profile] robintheshrew.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
This was the movie that taught me when Alan Rickman isn't wearing that stupid Snape wig, he's quite sexy

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, Damon and Affleck at their collective prettiest.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of its attempts at comedy had me rolling my eyes, but damn, everything clicked in the boardroom scene. Def in my top 10 favorite movie scenes ever.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
Alan Rickman drops his pants. 'nuff said.

Plus, I LOVE the Last Crusade joke. XD

You don't have to be a believer to like the film.

[identity profile] lavosspawn.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Dogma is awesome! I don't follow any religion, either, but I gobble up damn near anything with creative religious themes. You can just do so much with all that stuff! Fun times.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-21 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
This pagan just wants to throw in how much they love that movie then again I'm a fierce Kevin Smith fan and how awesome it is. Did you know Smith actually went to one of the protests for it, had a sign and was happily participating and almost had a reporter ruin his cover and fun? Sigh, so great.
