Amazon, go to Amazon you mother fu-

*takes deep breaths*

Sorry, I work in a Library so THIS REALLY FREAKIN' TICKS ME OFF. Do you know how many people love books? Do you know how many kids are dropped off by their parents at libraries using them like some fucked up day care, so the kids just sit quietly and read? Do you realize what joys you are preventing people from discovering by stealing those books? You HAD them. You had the joy of reading them and now you are taking away the chance for someone else to discover them. I'm sorry, but that is NOT ok. If someone did that to the one copy of Ronia the Robber's Daughter in our library I would go beserk, and I'm pretty sure that it isn't out of print (however, it's not like libraries can afford to re-order it in todays economy).

So, TL'DR-

GIVE THE BOOKS BACK. OTHERWISE I AM TEMPTED TO CALL YOU NASTY THINGS, BUT I AM TRYING TO BE NICE.

So happy to see Lindgren love here. I wish I could send your library a couple of extra copies of Ronia. :3

Lindgren is awesome. I never really got into the Pippy books, but I did enjoy them. Ronia however? My good gravy, I re-read that a million times. <3

Have you tried Mio, My Mio or The Brothers Lionheart? They're my other favourites of her work besides Ronia.

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-24 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, no! I will need to check those out. Thanks for the recs!

Hope you enjoy them! I've grown up with Lindgren books (I'm Nordic), so I'm always happy to spread the love. Just be warned that they're quite sad (especially The Brothers Lionheart) though ultimately hopeful, and handle some pretty heavy themes for children's books.

Ronia the Robber's Daughter ♥

I would love to work in a Library, because I was practically raised by one. (My mom was always with me, though, to make sure I behaved.)
Anyway, now that I'm older I'm so sad that most of the books I read as a child have been either stolen, disappeared or sold away. (Yes, our local library sells some of their books away. It's sad but there are good reasons for that.)
When people steal books from the library it upsets me a lot, too.

When I rank my heroes, fictional and real, she is one of them. <3 That book was amazing. I still re-read it when feeling a need for a pick-me-up.

As for the library- it can be fun, though in my system there is a lot of drama (so always make sure your system is a good 'un!). But I remember as a kid going to the huuuuuuge library in the city and being in awe of everything. Some of my best childhood memories are there.

I am probably going to have to drop my job there soon to dedicate more time to my other two jobs (yaaaaaay part-time work), but I will always look back fondly on it. Despite the drama.

So, uh, out of curiosity I just googled "Rona the Robber's Daughter", and apparently it's a book I read a long time ago in a galaxy far far away that I really liked and forgot the name of. Now I have a hold on it at my library, and I'm going to reread it ASAP. Thank you! ♥

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
:D No problem! I'm overjoyed that you got reunited with that book. It is amazing. <3 (I remember for a time I blanked out on the title as well, but luckily I found my old copy in a box somewhere. Ever since then I have it written down in three separate places along with other awesome book titles so I will never forget. Me = paranoid.)

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's a really good idea, I might need to do that someday!

Yeah, it was just really random, though, I was looking at the summary and then "hey, this sounds familiar- HOLY SHIT I KNOW THIS BOOK.) |D

[identity profile] kindlycoyote.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
What is also really awesome is that if you see a book you want to read, to take a picture of it with your cellphone or ipod touch. That way you will remember to look it up later! ...Not obsessive at all. >.>

And don't you love when that happens? Fandom!Secrets has reunited me with some of my old favs as well. :D

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
ARE YOU MY LIFE? Because I totally don't do this. Nope. Not me.

Yes! I love it~ ♥

[identity profile] skippity-doo.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha. I do this too, and I also keep a list of soon-to-be-published titles and things that look good in the back of my diary...

[identity profile] delfeus.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 09:06 am (UTC)(link)
There's also a film, I loved it as a kid. I don't know if it's available with English subtitles, though... the audio is in Swedish and the dvd has at least Finnish and Norwegian subs, I think...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088015/

[identity profile] loracarol.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweetness. :D I'll look into that someday!

Maybe after I have a chance to learn any of those languages, unless there actually are English subtitles... |D
