THOSE BOOKS! They were so freaking much of my childhood. The illustrations gave me nightmares, and kept me up some nights but i kept going back to them. ♥

I wonder what happened to my copies?

Oh god, me too. These books are ALL MY NIGHTMARES. It wasn't even the stories so much as the illustrations. *shivers* Thanks to those books I had nightmares and had to sleep with the lights on for for the entirety of my fourth grade year, no lie. Never has there been such an unholy union between my overactive imagination and a book.

Christ, I'll probably have nightmares again tonight, just for old times sake.

So much love/hate for these books. The instant I saw the secret I was flooded with all of these ~feelings~.

Sweet Jeebus, +1 to everything (and 4 for you, Glen Coco!). I read them all back in 2nd grade, and started sleeping with a nightlight. I owned the third one, but could only convince myself to read it a few times, because DEAR LORD THOSE PICTURES.
Going on TV Tropes in recent years and reading all the Nightmare Fuel stories made me feel a little better about my life and my choices, lol.

I had terrible nightmares after reading the first one. They should come with a disclaimer: "Seriously though, do not read these in the dark. Or possibly even in the afternoon."
