Ah, Irene....yeah, best I don't get started on that one. I plan to sleep tonight.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
That comment was deleted but now I do want to get you started. I ship Irene/Sherlock in BBC and ACD canon. What's wrong with it? In my headcanon I've made it so it works in ACD and it damn well works in ACD. We all have headcanon, that's how shipping exist.

If two characters who aren't into each other in canon, are a couple to you, that's shipping. So What is your beef with Irene Adler? So you want him Watson, I want him Irene, some might want him Morarity or Hell run off Mrs. Hudson. Some might want Holmes to have a secret heart shattering affair in his past with a OC who was to good for this world and NEVER love again. (That past love died of the brain fever, very common and incurable).

Jim has lots of people working for him. I don't know they know everything he did/does. He doesn't blog about it. There might be rumors like the ones about Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction, not even the dudes killing people for him know everything about Marcellus I bet it's the same with Jim.

Also in my headcanon I bet Jim has some kind of hold over her, I bet he has that over lots of people who work for him. He is a puppet master. Maybe her Mom in Elizebeth Town, NJ is under the impression that her daughter is NOT THAT Irene Adler, but a nice respectable dentist. And Irene wants her Mom to think that, and be alive.

Also Catwoman. She's totally Catwoman to Sherlock's Batman. And everyone digs Catwoman. Hasn't Catwoman put Robin in more direct danger, then Irene did John?

But this all IMHO and YMMMV

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... none of that changes the fact that she was going to blackmail a government official. And you completely ignored the fact that women died so she could pretend to be dead.

I don't know or care enough about Catwoman to even address your comparison.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well we don't know how that woman died, do we?
And yeah blackmail that's what the first story was about more or less. That's the Prince goes to Sherlock about. Oh and Prince is a moron.

And Catwoman, well that is kinda odd. She is such a big cultural icon... but that's again IMHO more geek cultural icon.
Besides none of the characters are nice people, and I don't think of any of them of them as white hats or black hats more like grey hats that change positions.

But that's me it's subjective. There are certain lines I don't want to see Sherlock cross. But I'm okay with him dating her and fucking her and having action/adventure type fun with her.

Although at the moment I'm leaning more towards Sherlock/Molly.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well we don't know how that woman died, do we?

No... but that's kind of the point: We're supposed to be so glad Irene's alive that NO ONE even addresses the fact that some other woman is dead.

And yeah blackmail that's what the first story was about more or less.

The original story was about the THREAT of blackmail. Canon!Adler never followed through with it. BBC!Adler DID.

There are certain lines I don't want to see Sherlock cross.

Like killing an innocent woman so Irene can play dead again? Cuz wouldn't he have had to do that for that ending, where Mycroft studied a beheaded body he thinks is Irene, to happen? Unless he rather conveniently came across an already dead body that looked enough like Irene's to pass Mycroft's scrutiny...

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
Anyways we all have our fun.

Sure.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's were our headcanon diverges. I think Mycroft lied to John and knew she was alive the whole time. But that's me.

I think things a lot make things very complex maybe needlessly so. Anyways we all have our fun. As I said right now for BBC Sherlock I'm having more fun with Sherlock/Molly and a fic that's Jim/Sherlock The idea is discussed up thread. Where they meet as teens in rehab both under false names their parents gave them. I'm having fun. Isn't that fandom is about, I hope, Have fun, but don't be to crazy?

[identity profile] lolofielding.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
My beef with Irene has nothing to do with shipping preferences. If you'd read my comment above you'd seen that I don't ship Sherlock and John in anything other than BBFS. And I've got nothing against people who ship Sherlock/Irene. I thought the two actors had fantastic chemestry. And to be honest, for most of the episode, I have no problem with Irene. She was badass and I loved how she was able to baffle Sherlock and to see someone best him.

It's just...the ending. From Sherlock using Irene's feelings against her to him then going to save her. As far as I know that wasn't in canon and from what I've been told the whole point of Irene was that she was The Woman who beat him. Except, in the series, she didn't. It seemed almost like a deconstruction of this brilliant character who's reduced to needing Sherlock in the end and him being able to use her feelings for him against her. So it's not really Irene herself as just how the third act of her story was written that annoyed me.

I still prefer her over McAams.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. That says something. Although personally I think he had feelings for her as well but that's all subjective.

[identity profile] lolofielding.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he had feelings for her, I'm just not entirely sure how far those feelings go exactly. Oh Sherlock, why must you be so difficult?

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the whole thing. As long the work is canon based and not a parody/pastiche/spin-off you can't have Sherlock do sexual or romantic things on screen. It's a sort of rule.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean like how lesbian dominatrix Irene was so close to her canon counterpart?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The "they can't because of canon" argument really doesn't work anymore.

[identity profile] lolofielding.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And yet they'll continue to use it. *sigh*

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant Sherlock Holmes himself. He can't be shown having sexin' on screen. In all the versions I've seen: Rathbone, Brett, Secret life of Sherlock Holmes, 7% solution, RDJ (first movie) BBC. He gets none and for most part gets none.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
My point is, they've already fucked royally with canon, so them arguing for not doing something based on canon doesn't really make any sense.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no idea, it's kinda of a taboo to show Sherlock Holmes being sexual in anything remotey based on canon. The great detective can't get any. And in BBC!Sherlock he never has. Not even to see how it works. Like the reason Lovecraft.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
in anything remotey based on canon.

And again, I'll point out that they've already messed with canon pretty badly.

And in BBC!Sherlock he never has.

First off, we don't really know that, since he himself never said he was a virgin.

Second, "never has" does not equal "never will".

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope. I hope, Hope.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I suppose. But I like better then the new movie. Also I'm Enjoying fandom. Let's have fun, I'm gettign sick of this debate. I get into them and I can't get out of them. Oh well. I just think what I see as fact, and it turns out it may not be. And then my head hurts.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't work in ACD unless you are determined to make Holmes another character altogether - did you actually *read* SCAN?. Oh, and brain fever is a made up Victorian catch all for nervous upset and was not "common and incurable" because it wasn't a real illness.

Please to be doing some research.

Yrs, an actual canon Sherlockian.

[identity profile] finmagik.livejournal.com 2012-01-20 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
My tongue was firmly in my cheek the whole time, joking. I was joking. People have been putting bullshit motives for Sherlock for about 100 years.
