I thought I was the only one! I loved the first one, was so looking forward to this one, and I was so disappointed. Like you said, way too much pandering - the chemistry and subtext between Holmes and Watson in the first one felt very natural and lovely, but this one felt, somehow, much more forced, much more like they were all trying too hard to say "SEE?! THEY'RE TOTALLY IN LOVE, LOOK HOW IN LOVE THEY ARE EXCEPT NOT QUITE BECAUSE WATSON IS GETTING MARRIED BUT STILL TOTALLY IN LOVE BUT NOT REALLY". Way too many explosions, shooting, chase scenes, ennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndless slow-mo and going-inside-the-gun/cannon/whatever scenes, not enough investigating, hunting for clues, figuring out a mystery for my tastes. In all in, a thoroughly disappointing movie.
