I didn't read all the comments but I think I'm looking at the secret in a different way then most people. I don't really see the OP poster knocking drinking as much as the idea that drinking in the eyes of society makes people cool while cosplaying makes you an immature dork.

Both are social activities with both pros and cons. I do find it annoying that one is viewed so much more negatively by society at large then the other.

It also bothers me that it's awesome when people go out and paint themselves colors and sit nearly naked in sub zero temperatures at sporting events but people that cosplay are weirdos.

It's most the social perception of the activities then doing them to me honestly.

I really think that part of it has to do with the fact that cosplay and fandoms like anime fandom are relatively new phenomenon and drinking/partying is as old as the human race itself

I agree, but I think the OP really made a mistake bu turning around and insulting people who have the more socially acceptable hobby. It's great to point out double standards like that, but it's not great to then be a huge ass to the group on the other side. The point about double standards then gets lost in a war between agreeing people who judge the more socially acceptable hobby and people who engage in that hobby getting really offended at the judgment.

If that , indeed, is the case alone, I agree. I just hate how it brings out the belitting of other people. It's like when someone talks about how X show does stuff that really bothers you and we get an earful of "THIS IS WHY I DONT OWN A TV" and it just feels like they think it makes them a much better person, or anything else where you have to bash "zomg those stupid awful normies" because "omg im so much smarter and better."

I know it really does suck but... I'm frustrated by this mentality.
