I wore nothing but toraichi pants (like the ones in the picture) for YEARS, because dear god are they comfortable. Not because they're Japanese, just because I have never found pants quite that comfortable. (Also they came in every color, and were dirt cheap when I was in Japan.)

My main problem was that people insisted on calling them hammerpants. Which for whatever reason I found irritating. Never much ran into the weeaboo problem.

It's a common misinterpretation. Hammer pants, parachute pants, harem pants, toraichi pants, etc all tend to get confused by people that are generally unfamiliar with the given type and just sort of lump them in together.
