Guess what, OP? I'm a big geek- I'm not into cosplay, but I write and read a lot of fanfiction- and I also really like to drink and party! I enjoy drinking with my friends, and more than just the fandom-approved "one or two casual drinks". Try more like 5 or 6 on a typical party night. I don't think we drink to excess- it's not fun to vomit or pass out in public- but we drink to drunkenness. Because being intoxicated is *gasp* fun! For a lot of people, anyway. It might not be for you, and that's fine, but this secret just comes off as so judgmental. It doesn't have to be either/or when it comes to fandom and partying, and how about we all just quit judging each other's pastimes?

Alcoholism & Drug abuse = the great American pastimes.

I'm not making fun of you, but unless you need alcohol and drugs to have a good time I don't think the secret was about you. It sounds to me like you just do it sometimes for fun, it isn't the only way you can have fun.
