I'm not even hugely into Sherlock Holmes, but that's stupid. The "real" Sherlock Holmes is the one that ACD wrote in the original novels. EVERYTHING ELSE is an adaptation. Jeremy Brett is no more the "real" Sherlock Holmes than Robert Downey Jr or Benedict Cumberbatch is. He's just the adaptation you happen to like the best.

Um... Every version of Sherlock Holmes that isn't the ACD characters can equally be called "fanfic", decent or not.

You like this version (sorry, I've never seen it) better than Sherlock,? That's cool. That's your right. But the Sherlock Holmes on the right is no more "real" than the one on the left, and most people aren't interested in deciding which one is better - just in enjoying their favorites. Can't we all get along?

It's the series of Sherlock Holmes that ran on the Granada network, and is typically considered to have been the most faithful adaptation of the stories to date (something I'd agree with.) I agree people should be allowed their own opinions, but OP was basically just stating theirs. It's not as if they said fans who disagreed were idiots or anything, just that to them the Sherlock series was inferior.

Sorry, but I can just never quite understand the need to prop one thing up by knocking something else down. It doesn't surprise me to see it since if you've been in any fandom for more than a week you'll run across some form of this. Is it insecurity about the thing you like? That it can never be liked on its own merit, but rather it must be better than something else? Is that the only way it can have worth? Actually whenever I see these kind of these "X > Y" statements tacked on to why someone likes something, it makes me feel like X is fairly weaksauce if that's a highlighted reason of greatness.

why is this a secret? Granada is widely recognized as the version of Holmes to beat, the one that every other one has to try and step to. Let the people freaking out over BBC Sherlock freak out cause it's ACTUALLY ON RIGHT NOW, the fact that you feel the need to Kanye up just makes you look insecure about your fave.
