That's some really shit artwork.

Sometimes I watch this show and wonder what the hell sort of graceful, skinny, elegant pixie-Dean other people are seeing. Because it certainly isn't the stocky, thick, walks-like-a-drunken-sailor Dean that I'm seeing.

I mean, they even overemphasized the height difference there. Dean's one inch taller than Castiel in canon and he's got to be three inches taller in that pic. Why is blondish hair seen as emasculating?

I have a fierce height kink, so when people overly exaggerate a person's height like this in a pairing where there's barely a difference, it bothers me so much. ;_; Their being almost the same height is what I'm enjoying! and then don't even get me started on the ones that make Castiel a skinny little waif

I don't know if 'emasculating' is quite the right word. But nonetheless a large portion of the fandom tends to overemphasize his 'prettier' qualities. So instead of having green eyes, he'll be described as having emerald eyes. Instead of being stocky and thick, he'll be described as thin and lanky. Instead of having fairly standard eyelashes, he'll be described as having long butterfly eyelashes fluttering across his cheek. Instead of being a standard not-so-special 6ft tall, he'll either be described as TOWERING over uke!Castiel or tiny next to seme!Sam. Instead of having a bow-legged walk, he'll be described as being graceful and dainty. And so on.

The fanart shows some of that. I see a tall, thin, pretty and lovey-dovey guy. But I certainly don't see Dean in that picture.

But Dean does have very thick eyelashes and gorgeous eyes. He's also fairly thin, though not lanky. Then again, I've never heard Dean described as lanky. Sam is occasionally described as lanky, especially in his younger years, but I've never heard Dean described as such outside of Teenchester fic. But stocky? Or thickly built? Nonnie, if Dean is thickly built, I'm a walking wall. Neither of the Winchester brothers are thick. Nothing wrong with thick guys, my lover is thickly built, but he also doesn't have anything resembling Jensen Ackles' body.

Also, why can't a pretty guy be masculine and badass? And why can't masculine guys be lovey-dovey? He's not even overly so to me, what with the annoyed grimace and everything.

Let's not pretend like this isn't far less frequent though, and a grand majority of people's fanon/headcanon is not this, which effects fics (except for het and casefic sometimes) all the time.

The first time I saw this, the only reason I knew it was Dean was because I knew it was Castiel, which I knew because of the trench coat. Again, let's not pretend like the proportions (however you think of dean) aren't off and you don't have to use some character markers.

same here. i only realized it was meant to be dean from the comments. i haven't been watching the show for the past 2 seasons and i thought maybe castiel was being shipped with a new character or something.

If this is considered thin, I wanna know where you live! Because Jensen is thicker/musclier than about 90% of the guys in my town...and the few that are bigger than him play football or lift weights.







though I agree that he isn't huge, he seems to have more of a thick waist and broad shoulders more than anything...but he also isn't what I'd call a thin man.

Well, that's rather rude. Dean isn't all that stocky in the show and there's nothing in that pic that makes it impossible that he couldn't walk like canon!Dean does either. Most of Dean's bulk is with the multiple shirts he tends to wear. When he isn't wearing those, he's usually fairly slender. I'll grant you he has more muscular arms than in that pic, tho.

The hair is a bit blonder than Dean himself is, but hey, artistic license. And Dean's hair is that sort of dark blondish brownish shade that varies according to the lighting and how much sun he's been in, so I can buy it.

slender? even without his shirts, "slender" is not a word i'd ever use to describe jensen ackles.
he's still built like a fairly stocky, muscular fellow. imo "slender" is someone like jim parsons or benedict cumberbatch. certainly not built-like-a-jock jensen ackles.

We have vastly different definitions of stocky. I don't think he's waifish or skinny, but he doesn't have a whole lot of extra weight on him and he's not overly muscular.
